why are all the numerous KR patches included in the download?

why are they not already applied to the install?

This is keeping me from even trying KR right now.

I'm not spending all night downloading and patching something that I doubt will replace my 2D client, at least not in it's current form.

Some people don't want the Devs to work on KR. I would, but I'm sure alot of people would say I'm in the 15%. I don't know if they are working on updating the install or not.

All I can suggest is to start the DL/install when you aren't planning on playing for a while(Over night/At work). Once you get it out of the way, keeping current isn't that hard at all. In the end it's up to end user to decide if it's worth a try. Good luck.

Let me know how long the updating takes...

Is it configured to keep updating even if I'm not there? I can see downloading the client in the morning while I shower and such, then installing and starting the update process to run while I'm at work.

yea it keeps updating , no need to restart or click anything, same as the regular updater,

still updating BTW, I'm going out for a while.

edit: I was just about to walk out adn I see it says patch session completed, so I guess it was about an hour and a half plus the half an hour download 2 hours and I am on 10 megabit

I'm sure Updating can be done while you're not there. I'm pretty sure that I started that big update, from a couple weeks ago, walked away and forgot about it. I came back the next day or so and it was just sitting at the login screen.

I grabbed the client first and it took me about 45 minutes with a download speed of 1.3mb/s I was surprised how fast the speed was because most servers I hit run between 500 to 600kb/s After that it took about 45 minutes more to patch up and play.

The worst part of all of it is that I only installed it to grab a couple images then closed it and haven't touched it since. Still to buggy and sloppy to use and 2d still out performs it in terms of how my character and interface are handled. As for the speed it runs at I can run both 2d and KR with the same speed only because my machine and connection can handle it. I will be a 2d player until it is no longer supported and then I will be moving on.

what a freakin waste of time that was, even after closing UO down I have to restart my computer because my system is so overwhelmed everything is slowed down to a crawl.

Actually I think the sum of the updates are bigger then the KR download these days?

You could zip your updated client and torrent it

There's also the problem that you can't just let it install in the background - most of the patches hit at least one point where the entire system just freezes for a while (at least on my machine that's been the case)

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

I may try it out this week. I don't think it will replace my 2D client, as I'm pretty partial to the way 2D looks in comparison. I suppose I'd just like to try it for myself, since there are so many opinions about it.

Yea,its worth the download just to give ya something to mess around with if ya get bored some night.

IMO,its way to overwhelming. I mean re learning everything, from macro making to bandaid self.Everything is sooooo different its irratating.

I get frustrated thinking, why would they do this.Revamp the game yes but plz leave a little of the old UO intact, like macro`s and hotkeys, etc.

I would play it ALOT more if when I clicked the legacy option,it reverted my char back to 2d form but kept all the surrounding KR graphics. As far as graphics go thats my biggest pancake, toons look nasty imo.I like my 2d toon on screen,it looks real. The only thing that looks real in KR (as far as on screen toons go) is the toon in the paperdoll.

If I could ride my horse and have it look as real as it does in 2d,I would love KR.All other graphics are great and I guess I could even get into relearning the game but damn,I just can`t get past the char models. I mean if the monsters and tameables look so great why can`t the toons?

May sound trivial, but thats what kills it for me.If I wanted to play crappy lookin toons I`d be into WoW.

Everything else I`ve seen with KR is great, alota peaple would like it right now if they give it a chance.I still dabble with it here and there but it is definately not the replacement for 2d for me.I hope it will be, but atm.......

Probably because building an install package is a more involved process than patching.

If they rebuilt the installer with each patch, they would have to go through the installer building process each time, which would be a waste of resources (at best)

it is actually not that hard to learn the new client, and in many aspects KR is easier to handle than the old client. I enjoy the new client tremendously. Simple things like a map that shows you healers that are close, a zoom fx. right click quick loot and so on make my game more enjoyable. Granted, I was used to the 2d client and it carries a lot of nostalgia value still, but that is all there is too it. The game is still the same... redoing your macros is a bit of a pain, but hey, most macros you don't even need anymore... I was crashing before the last patch about every time I threw certain spells around, that was annoying. That hasn't happened since the last patch. Give it a real try, you will like it, I bet.
