After playing on the new server, alot of old memories came back. I even had a strange moment when I realized alot of the old houses and players are gone. Alot of them were interesting characters.
Another interesting thing, was that, the rush of having to worry about other players seemed to make me have the need to play more or longer because every second seemed to be more important, almost as if, getting that gold ring or piece of armour, or even awesome weapon back to the bank was more of an accomplishment.
Part of the problem, I think, is obvious. Eventually people will begin to occupy important areas or even simple spawns and before long manipulate and grief. So, solutions should be discussed.
One of the things, I would think, is that the Brit land mass is to small. Imagine if you had the chance to re-do the whole shard, knowing all of the problems.
One of the problems, would be housing space.
Another, would be, resources. For example: hunting leather off a dragon.
Balance in the way people conform large groups and control or create an unbalance of power.
So, my thoughts, would be to create Britian and then increase the size to about 10 times, including water mass, slightly changing certain footprints, waterways, but keeping the defined Britian map. As far as city locations, just kind of stretch it out.
Then, I would add, roaming guards. Guards of the cities could walk around town and areas around the city. Guards on horseback, mage guards, all different types of guards. The difference being, there would be a radius around the guard, which would be his line of sight or what he could hear.
Once the guards see a crime, or hear someone yell for help, they would move into the area, giving the opportunity for crime to take place. You would even be able to kill the guard. So, having lots of guards would be important in cities to keep any kind of order.
This would take care of power-in-balance because these guards could automatically appear where there has been crimes comitted and then slowly disapate over a few days or increase.
So, guarded areas, would be similar to Trammel, where if it's a guarded area, you could mine, chop wood, and even be protected from spawns.
Another reason, I think it's important that the land mass itself is expanded, is to give players the opportunity to hunt. If I were to go into Shame or any other dungeon, everyone knows, it's a good place to kill or ambush a player. By expanding the lands and the spawns, it makes it more difficult for players to simply wait in one area.
Even more than one enterance to a dungeon might be beneficial. Random spawns would also be interesting, rather than know where something is going to spawn and what it's going to be, it would be nice, to just run into something, like a Medussa, or a Stygian.
I love all of the things we have now, so I think it would be important to keep them, minus the insurance, bless deeds, and so on but I don't understand why you couldn't have imbuing or keep item property. To me these are major advancements in the game.
I just think, everything should be consolidated. For example: If the landmass was expanded, you could add dungeons, including The Abyss and still allow imbuing. Although, i'm not really sure how successful it would be. It would be interesting to be able to loot imbued items off of people.
Even with Faction Items, I don't see a problem if a person is willing to work for something with the risk of losing it, it should be their choice. It all just stays in the game, anyhow, unless someone is real evil and deletes it or lets it decay.
But, to remove things from the game, I just think would be foolish. I would really like to see things go forward and not start taking things out of the game but rather figure out a way to make them work or use them.
So, there are some of my ideas of what a Dream Shard would be.
