Just curious this morning i went to try to tame a dread warhorse. When i bolaed the vanguard off the horse the horse simply disappeared. I thought maybe it was a fluke but i did it once more in tram cove and then tried in fel cove same results all 3 times dismount vanguard with bola horse disappears 5 seconds later into thin air. I know it didn't use to work like this cause i tamed my other dread warhorse using this method. Is this intended?

Kill the guard while it is on the horse. ONce it gets close to death. I think the guard jumps from the horse. Then you can tame it. BUt make sure to mount it fast after taming. And stick it in the stables.
Many a horse have been GW'ed even after them have been tamed.

Those guards are lets just say :lame:. I have no interest in fighting them and their cheeseball spawn. I just like taming the horses. I guess the bola has officially been nerfed for this event?

I just went and try on Napa, cove. Sure enough, when I hit it with a bola the horse disappeared.

Maybe that's just the point. In order to get the "prize" you have to defeat the obstacle first. Getting something for nothing was kind of lame to begin with anyway, not to mention leading to quite a bit of greifing on the part of some tamers.

They don't all dissapear seems to happen randomly, but theres a surefire way to get them to stay. After you bola it go in war mode and attack the horse, if it flags on anything it won't dissapear.

(attack while not invised that is btw)

If you bola the vanguard the horse seems to disappear. If you kill the vanguard the horse stays.
It seems like the spawn is a little worse than it has been. It took 4 of us over an hour to clear cove. That usually can be done in around a half hour.

Welcome to the world of he EV/field spell using mage when it comes to events that happen in cities. They should just turn off the city/guardwhack rules in that city.

Those guards are just say EASILY SOLOABLE BY A TAMER. Use a dog and mind blast the hell out of the guard. When the spawn pops mount your dog and run away. Keep dragging the vanguard away from the spawn. Its easily soloable and if you have anyone helping you it is a joke.

Sweet. This is a way to keep the tamers out of Cove. Just go bola all of the pretty horsies away...*runs to go craft a bunch of bolas*...la

Why not consider instead learning how to more effectively use the dozen or so magery spells, 8-10 spellweaving spells, and 8 or 9 necro spells that are offensive in nature and also usable within town limits? You might also want to experiment with using conflagration, explosion and confusion potions. Do some research on the critters that are spawning and learn their weaknesses. Maybe pull out some of the spell channeling mage weapons you have stashed away. If you're in a guild with mages that do PvP, I'm sure they'd be happy to give you some tips on which spell combos, mage weapons, and complimentary skills are particularly effective.

Or if it's really that frustrating not to be able to use summoning and field spells, you could consider switching to a different kind of a template for city fighting or buddy up with someone else and take turns being the first one to attack and taking the brunt of the damage.

I'm quite familier with necro/mage combos that do well, but I just don't like to mana dump on each monster I face. I like to keep some in the tank you know. I know I could go buy a 40% lmc suit at a vendor but I just don't have a spare 30 million just lying around.

Last i checked you still had to actually tame the thing all while avoiding lots of spawn. I don't really call that something for nothing and even if it was 99% of stuff in UO is something for nothing at this point following your logic. Doom Artis something for nothing stand back with an archer wack some doom bosses free artis almost zero risk. Scripted heartwood quests, mining, chopping again something for nothing. Your ignorant logic just doesn't hold up the whole game at this point is practically something for nothing. The only thing that is lame in my opinion is that they change this half way through the event for really no reason. Secondly if i just had to defeat a vanguard no problem i could dust them problem is they keep teleporting back and summoning large amounts of spawn way to much for one person to handle and if your dealing with lots of people which is what it really would take to do anything significant some moron will probably kill the horse there goes your "prize". Stupid change revert it back....

"Last i checked you still had to actually tame the thing all while avoiding lots of spawn."

There's no spawn after the Vanguards are defeated and everything is cleaned up. A lot of times the Vanguard is killed in between spawn times, so there's not even anything to clean up afterwards.

"if i just had to defeat a vanguard no problem i could dust them problem is they keep teleporting back and summoning large amounts of spawn way to much for one person to handle"

I, and many others, have been soloing the Vanguards, and that includes dealing with the spawn. They can be taken down even faster with 1 or 2 others working together as a team. Maybe you should try some different tactics.

"if your dealing with lots of people which is what it really would take to do anything significant"

Again, maybe you should think about some different tactics and get 1 or 2 people to go with you and work as a team.

"some moron will probably kill the horse there goes your "prize"'

That happens, but there are 3 cities that all spawn at the same time, and I can tell you for certain that at least 1 is empty every time the spawn occurs.

"Stupid change revert it back...."

It was supposed to be this way to begin with. That WAS the way it was orginally announced as how it was going to happen once this part of the invasion was turned on. The fact that they could be dismounted was not intended to be the way to obtain the mounts.

All that aside, I solo'd, and afterwards tamed, 3 of the horses myself just today. It took a little while, but that just shows you that it can be done with perseverence and sound tactics.

I've tamed 10 or 12 of them....... No problem...... and I bola'd them.... led them off and tamed them.... out of the city..... easy.... the Vanguard may constantly recall back but the Dreadwarhorse does not.

I forgot who i was dealing with. It's hard to reason with someone who thinks they are the "best" at everything UO.

Hardly the best, and I never said I was. I was merely pointing out that it can be done if you take the time to figure out HOW.

It's also not just me and my template of choice. Other templates are faring just as well if not better.
