Dragon Wolf - Stratics Community Wiki | Stratics Community Forums

It starts as a 4 slot pet. It would be better if it were 3 slot. There is not enough room for scrolls.

It has overcapped strength. That is a good thing except you cant increase the dex. It will not walk as fast as a 150 dex pet. But it hits hard.

It kills a GD with ease. It is a good pet if you don't have scrolls to add anyway.

The dragon breath uses mana heavily. You can choose another special move, but I didn't want to use points for that. It does not have an area effect ability and the only magic choice is poisoning.

The low starting resistances make it difficult to train fast but allow you to choose 4 to take to 80.

If it had about 800 more points it would be a great pet.

Cu has more options for attributes and magic abilities. But, for a pet that just has one training cycle and is decent without scrolls. This could be an option for a casual player.

Also difficult to ruin this pet. There's not many options to choose from.

Did you scroll the wolf at all ??
How good/bad is the dragon wolf when fully training skill wise ?
Does the extra strength help with the punches ?

There is not much room for scrolls.

His skills are mid 90s now. So he can get a little better. Also his parry skill is probably low.

Yes he hits very hard.

If you are just wanting a pet to kill ogre lords and Greater Dragons. This is a good pet. He kills them pretty fast. Also the resist spells is overcapped. He will not poison easily or for long.

He walks slow because the dex is <150.

I wont trade a Cu for this pet, but it is a decent pet for someone who only has time for one training period and has no scrolls.

Wrestling mastery doesn't work exactly like it does on player characters, but that is my choice of build for them though.

To be a three slot they need lower end hits and usually around 800 or lower strength. They are pretty uncommon, Specialist has been giving away a bunch of 4 slot one for awhile. If I can remember where I put my 3 slot ones, I'll post a picture.

i just started training a 3 slot and it just have more than enough points to train. HP can go up to 97x mana 600, fully 120 scrolled, 365 resist, max HPR, MR and 10 SR. also with wrestling mastery and it comes with 800 str. so i m looking forward to complete its training. i just couldnt decide if i really want wrestling mastery as it doesnt have AI.

what would be a good magical ability for a dragon wolf? Piercing / bashing / battle defense / slashing / wrestling mastery?

Wrest Mastery can allow for some really huge hits against lower Resists targets. The damage bounces around all over the place. One hit it'll do normal damage, the next hit you'll do 30% more damage, the next normal damage, then the next double damage, etc. The pet can also use Fists of Fury, which triggers on the next attack that hits your pet, causing the pet to attempt 3 hits at the same time on the enemy, this can result in some massive burst damage if all 3 hits land. The pet will also use Rampage, which gives it an increasing amount of HPR/SR/Casting Focus (doesn't do anything for pets)/SSI (pets cap their swing speed at 150 Stam though), until the pet misses or is parried. Wrest Mastery pets will also perform Disarm against opponents carrying a weapon, although that is something that you don't want to do at Medusa. They'll rarely use Paralyzing Blow.

Wrestling mastery sounds very powerful and in your opinion, is it better than having AI as they are mutually exclusive?

AI shines the higher the resists the mob has, Wrestling Mastery the lower.

I have completed 1 training cycle on my 3 slotter so now its a 4 but I bumped the resist, gave him the regens, he had 121 dex so I bumped it to 125 which is as high as it could go then I threw the few points I had left into mana. The next round I plan to give him 120 wrestling, tactics, anatomy then 110s on focus parry and med after that im not sure i'll have to see what I got left point wise.

An awesome guild friend of mine who knew I wanted one of these and has a treasure hunter tamed one for me last week. Should bond Wednesday.

3 slots, 777 HP, 804 Str.

Is wrestling mastery still recommended on these? I think I'd prefer to have AI, which means either taking AI/Poison, or piercing, or slashing. Tough choice.

*EDIT*
Decided to go AI/Poison. After skilling him up he hits like a truck. 950 HP/750 Mana/804 STR. Has room for full scrolls if I ever get them.

What level maps and Faucet do the Dragon wolfs spawn from. I have been doing level 5 and 6 maps, mainly in Tram and have not had one spawn yet

They can be rather uncommon from level 6 maps, I know when i was actively trying to find them I went long stretches without getting them.

Such a shame these can't get chivalry.

I put ai/poison on mine (started as a 3 slot), I kinda wish I had gone with wrestling mastery or battle defence instead.

Ok, I have yet to find one on a level 6. Been mainly doing Tram maps. I didnt want to waste my time milking the chest if there wasnt a chance to spawn one of these.

Thanks

Dragon Wolves are quite rare, finding a 3 slot one is even more rare. Most spawn at 4 slots. Although they look pretty awesome, I have to admit mine stays in the stable most of the time. Why are you guys interested in them?

Me too. I canceled my subscription this morning. May come back some day. I'm going to try out a few F2P shards for some alt content.

That would be a sad loss to the community. Do you play with others when you play?

Hello SouthPaw, just from my side many thanks for all input you gave in the forum! A returning player like me would be totally lost without people like you, Khaelor or Pawain (and of course others too). Looking forward to see you one time again!

Thank you!

I've been trying out UO Evolution server for a few days....not that great. Some things are cool, but a lot of it is just weird. Pet leveling is completely different, hard to say if it's better or worse. I doubt I'll be playing this server long.

I worry that you may get disappointed in most F2P shards:
--Some have some nice ideas, like colored dragons, meta pets, eggs of meta pets etc etc. Lots of these upgrades are PAY. You don't pay, you have the (much) lesser items usually. The pay is to the game owners.
Also you can buy islands etc. with RMT to the owners of the game. So much for F2P in a lot of them.
--Dishonesty, trickery, cheating, stealing, murdering is the norm there in a lot of them. It is the unhappy, dark side of humanity. I doubt that it is something you or I may look forward to.
--I have not played F2P servers, nut my son did, and what I saw done in the game, and the frustration and all the lying and cheating, deceiving etc. Not pretty.. LOL.
Instead of quitting maybe you can try a different shard?
Anyway we all hate to see you leave, and if you finally decide I hope that you will be happy old friend.

You may well be right.

I thought the pet training would be better on the shard, but it's not. It has no skill caps so you can 120 all skills, but they must work differently because I went to shame level 1 with all melee skills at GM and died right in the entrance. They have made custom skins for a lot of the mobs, I saw a WW and it took up half the screen. Pets don't increase in slots as you train them, but you can't add abilities or magics, only stats/resists. You can breed pets though and eventually get one with 2k HP and all stats maxed, the dex/stamina max is around 400. Ostards look like raptors. So weird.

SouthPaw

The pet breeding is an interesting concept... I would love to breed my original mare and have my other tamers have her children~
Yeah all the pets are male/female, but you can't breed 2 of your own pets unless you transfer one of them to a friend, then they have 2 babies and each parent gets one. I don't think it's as good as what we have though because you cannot add/change abilities, they just get strong stats. Pet death is way worse, when a pet dies 75% of the time nothing happens, but 25% of the time they suffer permanent stat/resist lost unless you make them special potions, which are crazy hard to make. You can also use taming/lore/vet skill to make pet dyes...I made a purple horse today. Over all though, the world just feels...unstable. There's tons of active players there though, way more than play on Pacific anyways, I can't figure out why. The more I play it, the more I don't like it.

The other scary thing about some . of these servers is that you can pay for, in game gold buy, make etc. a supposedly very strong pet i.e. "meta" pet or meta dragon, then come your enemies, pkers, thieves etc. and they can come and actually take that pet from you, something that you worked so hard to get..Also unless you pay up, and I've heard of pay like $100, $300 USD to the game, you will not ever get some items. F2P? I guess some call it being "support". Too many hidden costs for the F2P there. My son was in Uo forever, so if you think the UO evolution is bad, brace yourself when you log in the UOF..
These F2P shards can incur huge charges much more than what we pay for UO imho..Also cheating and scripting there is rampant, and lots of time legal as I understood.

Yeah, UO evolution allows unattended macroing as long as you're not making gold off it, just getting your skills up. It's actually encouraged. They give you a 700 skill ball to start, which made me wonder why everyone doesn't just start with all skills at GM.

Skills have to work differently on their server too. I had GM animal lore and had to use it 3x to get it to be successful on my ostard. That's weird right? You have to use scrolls to get skills up to 120 but then you can use +skill items to get it higher than that or to raise it higher without using a scroll. Some peerless mobs make pets go wild. Most people get a Cu and train it up, but again, you can't add AI/Chiv to it, only increase it's resists, stats, and base damage, and they spawn at 4 slots. You can pay money and make it so you can have up to 10 slots worth of pets though. The best pets are crazy rare and usually must be bought. I'm pretty much done spending any more time on that shard, waste of time in my opinion.

There's a lot of things I'd like to see done differently on the OSI shards, but somehow they keep the game feeling "right". Other F2P shards tend to have extreme things on them that in my opinion ruin the game. Some things I did like though on UOE:
-Can create items using taming/lore/vet skill, so you can raise those skills via crafting. (various potions, pet leash, hitching posts)
-Can use a shrink potion on pets that turns them into a statue for safekeeping, allowing you to store unlimited pets.
-They have twice daily city invasions that are champs that are good opportunities to get power scrolls.
-They have skulls that drop that allow you to pick any power scroll you want. (which is how I wish every power scroll was)
-You can turn in power scrolls that you don't need for points and use those points to purchase other power scrolls you need.
-They have 2 more magic books (Cleric and Druid). The Druid spell book works off the taming skill. Has some really awesome spells and as a tamer you could use it instead of magery/eval to save skill points-has a version of heal/cure/recall/gate and a bunch of other awesome spells.
-The devs/GM's are VERY involved and are constantly running special events with good prizes.
