After reading through the discussion, suggestions and flamethrowing in the other thread on this subject, is there a chance there may be some other resolution to such alliances besides disbanding them?

There have been some good points raised on all sides and some good suggestions as to how the situation may be improved. Could you or other developers discuss your thoughts or plans on this issue?
