It's on a point system, once you build up enough points you get a drop.

As far as how many points you need, I have no idea. I couldn't find that info.

No real clue either, but I can say my archer gets far more drops then my bard. Points must be related to damage output as my archer can deal out far more. One other thing I have noticed on both chars is that my drops generally come from the 'lesser' bosses. I have gotten very few off the Dark Father.

In a party the top damage dealers get more points, and both solo and in parties, the Dark Fathers are worth more points than the lesser bosses.
