I want to know from the powers to be of this game if it was a financial issue why didnt they sell advertizing of some sorts in the game.... it could have beeen done and it could have brought in the revenue that the game needed to stay afloat .... when it was in trouble a years ago why didnt it ask its players if they would consider a increase in payments too keep things afloat... why werent we asked why werent we a part of any of these discisions.... why was it assumed for you and i that we wouldnt pay a higher monthly fee to keep the game?????

Its not so bad the game closing im pissed off about the emotional rollar coaster they took us on before they closed... they cleared the lag problem that was a major problem in the game always has been. promised us the world and then on the eve of amnesty we get told oops were closing...

This game could have been saved if that corporation had any brains in its head... as i said in game advertizing from major companies could have brought in the revenu on top of subscription base to save the game if they actually would have tried!

I think the main thing was it was Sims 1 graphics. They were competing with things like WoW and SL...with way more stuff to do and again, better graphics. Sucks how they kept it all quiet til the last moment though and kept billing people and letting them use the ATMs.

I think TSO-E / EAL was an attempt to "whip a dead horse". From the looks of it, EA wanted to close this game regardless. I believe Luc wanted to save this game, because he saw the potential in it. I think all his work fell on "deaf ears" at EA.

The bitter part of all this is that The Sims Online 'had' the potential to be a huge online success.

Coming from a family of extremely popular games, it's sad to see that little or no effort was made to assure TSO success.

Most likely it was too late to save the game when the Team stepped in to intervene. There wasn't money to advertise which was of utmost importance. Even with advertising, there wasn't a 'finished' product to offer. Maybe it could have been advertised as paying to be 'beta' testers? More players may have been willing to stick it out and even pay to be testers.

But in the end, the money just wasn't there, the membership just wasn't rising fast enough and well....it is just too late.

I don't think we've seen the last of Sims Online (Why would there be a TC3? Hmm....Sims 3 comes out in 2009?) and if that's so, I won't hesitate to sign up for it. I enjoyed TSO and would continue to enjoy it even starting over from stratch.

Honestly Connie, I do not think that it was for lack of trying on the dev teams part, or lack of caring on ours or theres. I truly believe that EA just didn't see keeping this game open feesible anymore.

While our numbers are going up they weren't anywhere near what they should have been.

They've never been anywhere near what they should have been.

I think Luc's last ditch effort was too little too late. We already had one foot and most of our leg in the grave.

I don't think feeling bitterness over this corporation is going to do anyone any good.

You have your choices on how to deal with EA. You can boycott... you can call them daily... you can petition.

But I definitely think that all of us should just move on. Take the next 3 months for what it is... and then move on.

Also, this gentleman threw in the towel... Bing Gordon

Add to it that to the gaming industry, EA is Dead Meat

Companies are like balloons... they can expand and expand, but eventually the tiniest otherwise little insignificant weakness will make the whole thing explode.

WOW that's quite a shake up!!

I bet whatever happened between EA and our Devs wasn't pretty. They probably walked in one day and all had pink slips, given 15 minutes to box their personal items and be escorted to the door.

Ugh!! I feel bad for them.

I hate to say this but I think we are in it alone now. I doubt if anyone but the janitor is there to even throw the maintenance switch.

How sad.

The explanation, that Luc left EA after nearly twenty years -- "On April 21, 2008 Luc decided to part ways with EA and respond to the "urge to be an entrepreneur again." -- screams "SPIN" eh? And, IMO, your "O rly? well I'm out!" is probably what the fly on the wall heard.

Twenty years is a long time to be with a company. Luc was acting as an entrepreneur in attempting to construct EA Land. It sounds to me like EA has little patience for creativity.

I know Luc will land on his feet, and I wish him well. I'm not so sure about EA. And, I certainly do not wish them well.

I agree with this Dali.

I think Luc for the most part had really good intentions...

Unfortunately the road to hell is paved on those .

It sounds like leaving EA is a way to exit the thru-way to hell. EA has long been known as a "white collar sweatshop." I seem to remember they got bad press a couple of years back when a "wives group" formed to lobby against EA's disregard for family values (of employees). I hope team adds to the surveys already on tap at vault.com, lol.

As a progammer myself for 20+ years EA did NOT consider what their players wanted. The three keys to success in any business is Customers Customers Customers. The ATM should have been implemented long before botters took over, custom content should have come as soon as high speed access arrived. Ebay should have never allowed the buying/selling of virtual stuff due to copyright laws.

The problem I have is there is no game like this one. Second life is flashy and doesn't sit still, I am not an action game player to enjoy WoW. My hope is some new Doll house God game is designed by someone somewhere, then I will have a game I can play online again.

For some of us this is the only game that appealed to us, due to it's unique structure. Probably good all those people don't run this game anymore, they didn't qualify for the job to begin with.

There is always the hope that sometime soon, some "responsible" game company will turn the tables on EA and acquire*them*.

Then, maybe TSO will get a re-trial. This time with some company support.

Might have been more like one shoulder and an arm, not *yet* in the grave.

Just enough to give Luc something to grip and try to pull us out.....unfortunately the grave was quicksand, and in the end, he could not save us...and from the time-line in the link, may have gotten caught in the trap, and lost himself, as well, in the process...

OOps...got totally wrapped up in your imagery!

still pisses me off the way all of this was done with no reguards to the players at all and if they had there heads out their @@@@@@@ and wanted to they could have saved this game... point being they didnt want to.... and that emotioinal rollar coaster sux... i am staying till the day the game dies takin a few days off to recoup from this bull... that they have handed us and said take it.

Im appalled at the customer service from this company and myself I will never buy another game that has ea land name on it weather its sims or not.. I wont be treated this way and i do have a choice and that is NOT to buy their games!

I feel the same way as you..

I will no long support them in anyway.

I also was billed and called to get a refund.

I'm glad I have another game to play, Guild Wars (shameless plug) and a few of my friends that I met in TSO are considering playing it also.

ummn for awhile my computer's video card could not even run the sims 2 when it came out. I loved the fact that I was able to be on an online game and not kill my cpu... Also for awhile highspeed internet was not in my area so had to rely on dial-up... I love that it was in sims 1 version, being a single mom made computer updates outta my reach.
