Does this playstyle still exist?

I came back to UO a few months ago after a uhhh... 7-8 year break. I joined a very helpful, large guild.. but I soon realized that my playstyle was so drastically different, that I was basically perma-solo. The single-player grew old and even my best efforts to continue to interact with non-guilded people was usually met with silence.

I like roleplaying in character a lot, although I don't care for the lengthy forum chronicles as much. I prefer natural skill gain, obtained only through natural actions of the character. I prefer an emphasis on having fun with the character over "Whats going to give me the most skill gain?". I don't care about how much money I have, or how many rares, or how many houses. These were qualities I found very difficult to find in others. Do any guilds still play this way? I'd like to rejoin UO, because all the new changes are really fun. I'd like to know I could find my place among others before I dive in though.

I appreciate any help :)

Have you tried looking in the Atlantic RP community? I know quite a number of people in it, just like you who aren't concerned about skill gains. Perhaps focusing on more than PvM, like rp plots/stories/events might be more fun for you. I know most rp guilds, don't particularly care if you are a GM anything. RP isn't about character skill, its about the rp.

The only thing you might have a problem in regards to group PvM is finding people at your skill level. For those who have played their characters and have them finished, a romp with earth elementals may not be fun... some folks find they need some challenge in PvM such as Peerless, Champions Spawns, etc. If you can tolerate dying and not getting pissed off, most guilds I don't think mind lower-skilled characters participating in PvM events and will do their best to keep you alive.

Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for.

Yes! I have read the atlantic RP forum and I am impressed so far. I think I have read all that I can about that forum and some of their groups. There is a good amount about gameplay that is not recorded though. I do understand at the same time that what a guild considers "RP" can vary drastically. I'm looking for something beyond "light RP", which is really no out of game talk. Most guilds are so generous upon joining as well, i'd hate to join and then have to leave after I have learned more about that.

I think I am just going to have to risk giving it a go. I'll have enough fun solo and interacting with non-guildies for a while. Either i'll find what i'm looking for, or it does not really exist. This server seems really exceptional, and I doubt there is very much risk at all. I'll try to stay active on all Atlantic associated forums.

All guilds belonging to the ARPC should be in-character 100% of the time in game. The chat systems in game however (Party, global, guild, etc) are generally treated as ooc mediums. If you feel frothy, register and post on the general discussion forum. I know they'd be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have.

Everyone from the ARPC has been very OOC with me... almost all the time, same with here.

Noone likes me being the son of oblivion... they even say I'm inventing it all to be important, while it's my character philosophy to hold no attachements.

Just like you !

But you have a chance not to be rejected, because you have never been part of the FoA which everyone openly hates but secretly admires.

Sadly I am immortal, so this is torture for me, I'm really glad to hear it's all good for you even if you do not find what you are looking for. But honestly I know where you are coming from and don't put your hopes up.

Every single roleplayer has completely refused to be in character with me, in game or on any forum. Noone even remotely tried to know my character exept perhaps one...

I heavily dislike players who roleplay "important" characters. The RP world is full of such examples. Just from the little I know about you, I would stray a mile and half away from your character on my roleplayer.

I have had enough of "immortals" and "dark lords" - would rather roleplay with a common guard or a kitchen-hand than self-annointed high lord of timbaktu. Not many of those modest types around these days but the few I have met have been the most amazing roleplayers.

BTW, Ahuaey, your definition of RP is at best twisted. You mix real life things with in character all the time. I would not even call you a role player. For once, you might want to consider the fact that just maybe there is something wrong with your behavior, instead of finding fault with rest of the creation.

Sadly over the years as far back as i can recall the "rp community" has more often than not put themselves in positions of self importance. Don't get me wrong I'm on good terms with more than a few "rpers" but to imply others are so very welcome on the ARPC boards is misleading. How many have gone there and are completely ignored many times over?

I respect ARPC's playstyle (its a game thus i respect everyones playstyle here actually) but rarely find that this is returned in kind from that community. Who is to say my definition of roleplaying is any less important than what the "rp community on Atlantic" regards as such? I feel the second I log into Sosaria Im rping, playing my mage that has been adventuring and thriving in these lands EA provides for us.

Sadly in my eyes the elitist attitude of ARPC provides players with a stagnant world of gaming. The idea of ARPC themselves tweaking things a bit to provide more latitude for others to become involved, thus allowing for the growth I know they seek, is shunned. Very few are eager to become a part of a world that is not open to new and fresh ideas, or faces.

Yes, providing wonderful backgrounds and history surrounding the majority of ARPC and its member guilds is truly admirable, but you must go beyond that to be desirable to others on the outside looking in. One cannot move forward based on a history so many here never knew or experienced, it has to be more than that.

You know I'm going to write this, because I know you are intelligent, and I also know that there is something wrong with my behavior *rolls eyes*

I was the first dark lord, ok get over it, yes I am the missing part of the puzzle. Thats just the way UO evolved, go read whats left of circa 1999. Magic number you say ?

Before me there was nothing !

I've long not been a dark lord, I am tending bees and picking wild mushrooms in the summer, I work at a very big corporation to give service to people during the winter, I have a girlfriend who I love with all my heart.

Yet I cannot be separated from the atlantic shard, I see everything and everyone at once there.

Yes I have too much mercury flowing in my brains, I have been badly intoxicated in my youth, ten huge mercury amalgams and tuna almost every day for 2 years (right before the government found it it was full of mercury) lemme tell you it's not a fun ride, and yes I seized UO as a jealous child would rob a wonderful toy to people who worked for it, and perhaps even fought a morally just battle. Some people would like to debate just that.

I'm not the judge for that you see, I will not deliver "the answer".

The game will deliver it's own answers, about the time ends itself !

So yes lets read the rest of your message.

BTW, Ahuaey, your definition of RP is at best twisted. You mix real life things with in character all the time. I would not even call you a role player. For once, you might want to consider the fact that just maybe there is something wrong with your behavior, instead of finding fault with rest of the creation.
You even familiarize yourself with me ? I guess we're human brothers... love before all. You can call me Ahu :D

So tell me Thomas, since when the avatar has no link with real life ? I am challenging you to become philosophical just the extent of one post please, and explain to me the story of UO and its links with real life... I know you write better than me, so that would be cool.

And I don't think there is something wrong with creation, I think there is something wrong with the queendom of UO.

Thats the people, but not really anyone, not really anything. I honestly don't know ! What I know is more complex than that single one answer ! But the way I must have it is the contrary of importance. It's honestly the only way and noone has even remotely close to communicate in this situation. So basically you have no idea !

Sorry...
