I have mined "attended" as I will always do for nearly 60 hours with 2 GM chars and have not yet got any Valorite and only a few Verite, So do I read this right that my gamestyle has been penalised by cheats?

Seems a pretty tough call on us attending types.

According to the devs ... they did the change so the "rare" ores remain rare, not to punish the scripters. Guess instead of doing their jobs of stopping the scripters, they punished everyone.

I'm sure there are millions of rare ingots somewhere being hidden by the scripters. Why else do you see 1000 valorite on the vendors in the trammy shards and seems like they don't run out?

I don't know what lies in the future for miners and UO, but's it's not bright ...

Certainly isn`t mate, years ago a tailor made better armour than I could, Now it seems only the cheats who have masses of Valorite ingots can fill a Valorite deed---Maybe my honesty is being thrown out here.

Maybe you only have been unlucky?
I did only little mining today (4 shovels, 2 garg pickaxes, nearly 1 prospectors tool) and I got about 120 valourite ingots. But I had luck on smelting those from the valourite elemental. To be more specific ... thats an awsome result for me compared to my usual mining.

prospectors tools are your friends, and yes, its just pretty lame in general. ive sen one valorite vein since the randomization occurred. It only spawned the once as well. the next time through, the vein was iron.

Before the mining changes were made, there were rumors that ore deposits found in 'more dangerous' places yeilded better and more ore. Could anyone comment on if this is true or not, and what would be considered 'dangerous'?

Doubtful that dangerous is worth anything nowadays, because Random is the flavor if the day. Now if one could get a scoop of random with a boost of dangerous? That'd be cool. Thus far not happening.

They have hinted at further tradeskill enhancements to be integrated into special ores/woods. Inasmuch, they have indicated that a long time sought after ability to "choose" enhancements is planned. This would undoubtedly be associated with what metals. Say Val would increase HCI Ver would increase HDI.. an so forth.

They have indicated that this is why val is to become a rare commodity once more. Until now, valorite has been mainly used to obtain library/museum items.

Agreed. For all the whining and complaining about the lack of ores when the change was first implemented, my miner hasn't been suffering from lack of any ores except a giant pile of iron to fill bods.

Then again, I work with both the prospector's tool and the gargoyle pickaxe. Even the lowliest iron site becomes a shadow spot when one doesn't fear the elementals.

Honestly, my smith/miner has had very little occasion to actually USE valorite. Oh, she has a heap of it in a chest, but since valorite bods are far, far rarer than the ore itself.. it just sits there. The reading glasses of the trades aren't all that exciting, and miners don't get an option for all the useful stuff the lumberjacks get from the museum.

Apparently the museum doesn't appreciate miners. Let that place burn down once, oh yeah. They'll be looking around for miners that can dig up granite, and I'll try not to be too smug when they do.

Well I just started playing again but I was personally THRILLED to hear that they were attempting to make rare resources more rare.

Last time I was playing, just near my house (not recalling or anything) there were like 5 GOOD valorite spots... I actually had a harder time coming up with bronze and verite. Anyways, im just saying, it wasnt exciting to find valorite because it wasnt rare at all.

Im all for a hard days work, coming home and saying "Wow, I managed to find 1000 valorite today, im going to make some coin."

I have tons of colored ingots, I mine idocs

:p

Seriously though, camp a few houses and after 3 or 4, if you're lucky, you'll have all the regs/boards/ingots/etc.. you'll need.

Not that I don't enjoy mining, but a lot of people DO sit on 10's of k's of valorite that just fall to the ground.

the stated purpose of the change was to make the higher-end ores even more rare. I mean, when valorite ore is so common that "young" players are somtimes stocked head-to-toe in valorite armor and arms by generous veterans, there might be a bit of a glut in "rare" ores!

With that aside, theres still plenty of valorite out there as long as you have a prospectors tool and gargoyle pickaxe. Like a lot of miners, I've got more valorite than agapite and verite combined.

And at least in my experience, some of those agapite veins can sometimes run for a day. Which becomes a lot of valorite with the old agapite+prospectors tool+gargoyles pickaxe trick. As opposed to valorite and verite, which seem to change after only a couple of resets
