Do I need to reinstall UO?

There are no words on my skills list. Only on one character and only on my laptop. When I run UO on my desktop, the words are there. The numbers are still at the bottom of the scroll and show the changes when going from show real/show caps, just nothing shows on the list.

So does this mean I need to reinstall?

might be a cliloc problem that's fixable (it may have just forgotten what language to show text in) ... but I honestly don't know what to suggest to troubleshoot it further.

I was wondering if there's a file I could copy a file from my other computer that would fix it. I really don't want to do a reinstall since I will then have to redo macros. Never had so many computer problems until I got a laptop with Vista on it.

Try exiting UO first (If you don't close the UO client totally before modifying any of the files, it may crash.), then delete the skillgrp.mul file under:

"\My Documents\EA Games\Ultima Online Legacy\User Data\<account name>\<shard>\<character>"

If that doesn't work, delete the rest of the files except macro*.txt.

Copy all the macro2d.txt settings onto a USB drive or even another folder on your C:/ drive. (would be all the macros for each of your characters you have). You can find them in the:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\EA Games\Ultima Online Legacy\User Data\Accountname\Shard\Charaname The macro2d.txt file would be in Each of your Characters folder. You could then reinstall UO & once done just copy the macro2d.txt file back into each characters main folder. (I would log into each chara 1st then completely exit UO, copy your saved macro2d.txt files back in & over the default ones, then restart UO. All macro's should now be back & work as before.

Also make sure Vista is running UO in Admin mode. Good luck
