Was planning on my crafter making the change...but she is also my deco person (other alt is elven) and didnt want to lose the ability to see dark nights...you know how nice it is at night with "mood settings"...hehe i make no sense, but you know what i mean. *smiles big*

Well, don't plan on using the Enhanced client when you want to see dark nights. I'm not sure it's possible. Have posted elsewhere asking if I'm just missing a setting but no reply yet.
yea dark nights is on sa enhanced client, gotta check all your display settings, i think theres even a brightness slider bar, not sure since im at work and dont have that client here yet. I remember going into one of the new champs on retribution and the darkness was intense and the swamp ground around me was so beautiful, it was like shimmering with moonlight.
Xalan, I checked again, this time in both the SA and KR clients (using BB_Enhanced for KR) and could not find a "Dark Nights" button. Found the Brightness slider, but that was it.

Did you find a Dark Nights or Colored Lighting button? Maybe my laptop's just incapable of doing it or it's an effect I've disabled with another generically labeled settings button. Hmmm.

I know there is a darkness slider in the settings menu, not sure if there is a "dark nights" button though, I will check and see shortly.
Didn't do anything that is just the way it is. I never gave it any thought to switching Nights off as .... well Night is how UO has always been.
I guess what you see in the screen shot below is the best I can do with my computer and the Enhanced (SA) Client for a "dark nights/colored lighting" effect. Human character with nothing on but newbie character clothing. Brightness pushed all the way down to 0. Other settings as shown on the gump. This is on Retribution too, in case it makes a difference. Time: Just after 10:30 pm. Should see pools of light from the fireplace, candelabras, lantern, and brazier outside, possibly also from the elven forge.
For comparison purposes, here is the same house and character at a slightly later time in the evening but in the Classic client:

Just curious, did you note if your laptop meet the Enhanced Client Video requirements?
Enigma, I'm no techie. Not sure how to check that. All I know is I had to run the "EasyInfo" application and provide the resulting file to EA to get in the closed beta. I would assume that if my machine (a Gateway M460 laptop that's about 3 1/2 years old) was below the minimum requirements, they probably wouldn't have let me in.
All I can tell you without knowing which other tool to use is that EasyInfo says the Display Device is "Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family" and the Display Driver is 6.14.10.4291.
*Shrug* I do not have access to the Video Specs, they were just a list of cards/chips.
I do suspect though that if a Video System is not recognized OR it does not conform to something, they may just throw it into a universal definition and NOT implement some of the effects.
Note, none of the above makes any real sense in terms of Night vs Day, directly. It could however be an unintended consequence.
I would send the information in as a bug and let them know.
