Disappearing Hirelings

Been having an issue with hirelings. Seems like if I'm all nice to them, I can keep them around me for days. Minutes after I start whacking them with a sword in town (no damage), they go poof. Gone. Just...de-spawned. They don't lose loyalty, don't give me my money back (the bastards), they just disappear.

Any idea whats going on here?

I don't know about hirelings, but I've been having a problem with escorts disappearing for the past 2 days. I used to lose them occasionally if it took too long to get them to their destination, but now they can disappear very quickly. I've also been noticing NPCs simply appearing and disappearing more often too. (I know they must have always done this, but lately its been more noticeable.)

Seems to be totally random, some stay around for ages, others say they are good for 25 days and vanish in 25 seconds!!

No help from me, but I never trained 'em. Maybe back in the day EA thought that was an exploit or something, so they put a freeze on that kind of thing. It is allowed with pets though.

Mine always got killed. They need to bond. Different powers and stuff too.
