What is exactly difficulty in parrying gains? I thougth several times about it, but still have not got an idea. Parrying give me simple chance to parry based on skill only. I cannot modify this chance by any other way then gaining or losing parrying (and/or bushido) skill. This is completely different from "difficulty based" skill like swordsmanship where you have to figth equally skilled opponent to get gains. Can anyone enligten me?

You can gain in parry all the way to 120 against sheep, but to do so you need to have a weapon in hand that you have no skill in, and a shield if you have bushido. This lowers your chance to parry to a minimum which in turn enables you to gain.

Not exactly so. U must have no DCI, and use other weapon than your skill (example take dagger if u have gm macefighting). If u have bushido - take other 2handed weapon than your skill (example take spear if u have gm macefighting). The point is to have your skill checks as much as possible and to achieve it you have to actually parry more. But if u take shield with bushido - you will parry very little hits.

I've stated this several times and certain people just don't get it. If you have bushido DO NOT USE A SHIELD.

As I've tested it on a character WITH 120 Bushido, yes, you use a shield and it works.

Much faster.

It works but much slower. With shield you parry 5% blows, with 2 handed u parry 30-40% blows (depending on skills). You gain more as you parry more.

I think you may have that a bit backwards. You gain more if your Parry chance is less.

I'd say to ask Setnaffa. He's tested it a lot more than anyone else I can think of.

Wrong.

If you want to gain in parry and you have Bushido on your template, you want to carry a shield. The chance of parrying with a shield is lower when you have Bushido making it harder; the harder it is to parry, the faster you will gain in it. You can still gain in parry when you have Bushido and don't wear a shield, but the gains will be noticeably slower.

You don't gain as you parry more. You gain more when your chance to parry is lower.

I've gone all the way from 0 to 120 on a Samurai three times. Once with a two-handed weapon; once with a one-handed weapon, and once with a one-handed weapon and a shield. The fastest time from 0 to 120 was when I held a one-handed weapon and a shield.

Wow, thanks very much. This is just what i was looking for. I just hit 120 Bushido, and need to get parry to 120 from 100. Was wondering if i use a shield, a 2 handed wep or what.

Real nice, i went from 100 to 120 in 5 hours and 5 mins, use 10 shields bought from the blacksmith in town. Had 15 female fighters on me for the whole time.

I keep hearing of using the Female fighters, but that seems to take alot longer than using the farm animals. I have no idea why it would be that way, but I go from 30-120 in about 3 hours using the farm animals.

Yeah that is good. I had heard of this trick but eh, I wasn't in any hurry when I did mine. Can go from zero to GM easy in the Jhelom pit. After that I just fought the red fighters in Travesty to 110, then fought changelings and the named changelings from 110 to 120. Didn't take too long.
