Did SOS(message in a bottle) fishing change?

I have been fishing with a normal pole for about 7 hours I got 2 SOS's and 2 white pearl. I am positive i was in deep water the whole time. I also notice I fail to catch anything more often then yesterday with a 110 skill.

was there any changes to SOS fishing I am not aware of?

Thank you

Only your personal luck. If you dont have much luck in one area, try another one. (While magical spots with lots of sos are a myth, i really have often the feeling, that you get more of them in certain areas/spots than in others.)

Ive heard several reports about fishing being better at 105 then any other skill level. Both for sos and asos. As far as rare fish go 120 is the way to go but mibs its 105. Note thats not fact just my acumalated numbers from posts made here.

Also of note, Always save your mibs till ya got 100+ and open them at sea! Better results! What i read and have seen in the rng is @100 fishing its 1 asos in 100 @105 its 1 in 25 and 106-120 it scales back to 1 in 100.

so what you're saying is another skill has gone the way of GM=worthless?

there's absolutely nothing to support these numbers.

if what you want are sos's, you get them the fastest at 75.1 skill now, don't even have to kill serpents at 75 skill also.

downside is no white pearl or delicate scales, but you'll get more sos's per hour.

As for opening mibs for ancients, i've never seen a difference between opening on sea or on land, or opening them even on a character completley without fishing. Skill/location doesnt seem to matter, chance of being an ancient is pure rng and averages to 1/25

Try another spot. While they aren't as glaring as they were at one time, "hotspots" do seem to still be happening on occasion in Fishing. This seems to have expanded from just SOS drops to crab fishing success as well.

I think its all hearsay. I have over a dozzen fisher's and I know for a fact 2 of them get more mibs then the rest combined in the same time fraim and same fishing area and style.

I can take Dragon Foxx out on a dingy or his lg ship and in 1 hour get between 5 and 20 mibs. I cant tell you how he does it cause quite frankly I havent the foggiest how. But on that same note the 3 other on that shard doing the very same thing get 3 to 5 max. Andrea on another shard fishes that same way and almost outdoes Dragon.. she gets 4 to 18.

I wonder if that old addage about time a character was made falls into this.

Well, I'm not saying that the hotspots may be on purpose, and it could very well extend to time of day, character used, etc. All of it ending up being a quirk of the ever-loved (sarc) RNG.

whether i'm on a fisher with GM, 105, or 110. i find nearly the same amount of SOS. it's all RNG.

at 75 the reason you pull a bit more sos's is without the chance of pulling other things, the sos drop is slightly higher. (not to mention significantly faster without having to stop and mess with serps) It's a bizzarity of how the RNG works that allows this. Once you hit GM+ the entire "table" of what you pull when you fish changes, so yeah, post-gm you should get roughtly the same amount no matter what your skill

I hit a "hotspot" once.. fished up about 15 mibs in just a few minutes.

i could see this working, but there has to be a higher rate to catch nothing when using 75 skill. at 110 skill, i seem to pull up serpents very often.

also i notice that when you have one serpent up and you continue to fish, more serpents come up. i've gotten 4 up at once. not all with MIBs, but they seem to come more when you have one active. (which this could apply to any skill level)

As i said though, it's a bizarre side effect of how it's set up, yes you catch stuff less, you are correct about that, but remember you don't pull serpents until i think 85 now, at 75 you flat out fish up the MIB (no serpent killing, it just drops in your pack like a fish), it's not that serpents are hard to kill, more of that the mib chance without serpents pre-gm seems to actually be higher, and without stopping you can fish more and faster.

It actually makes me think of wiping my 105 fishing and going back to 75, i dont really care about the bosses and other things, but my MIB rate went way down after I hit GM, before i could just drop a map on my tillerman and pull up 5-10 mibs on the way. I know a couple fishers who have locked themselves at 75.1 just for the purpose of doing mibs. If you do fishing consider soulstoning it and building back to 75, locking it there for a while to see what I mean (or do it on TC1)

i get what you are saying now. i do recall directly fishing up a MIB off the docks when i was training a fisher earlier. i might do some tests and see how well this works. big fish are the main problem, they are caught far too much now. being at 75 would fix that issue.
