Did someone break the Experimental Room?

Hey guys, has anyone done the Experimental Room recently? I used to do it a few times a week and actually became pretty good, alas, that was a year or so ago. Since I needed to get my hands on some more Flowstones I thought today would be a good day to go do it. It seems, however, that it isn't possible now.

It's the room with the coloured tiles I refer to, with the focusing gem which changes colour. It's one of two problems I think, or a combination of the two.. Firstly, the game is a lot more laggy these days, which certainly doesn't help because you need to move fast before the gem changes colour. I can get my character on to the correctly coloured tiles, but I still get kicked out. I've been trying for about an hour since I thought it might be me just being a little rusty at it, but, I couldn't manage to get past the first colour change in the first room. As soon as the second colour appears and you run on it, you get kicked out. Perhaps it could be because on my side I move my character on to the correct tiles, but because of lag, the server doesn't place me where I am in time, so I get kicked out.

If anyone could give it a try and see if it's just me or not, that would be appreciated!

I experimented with it years ago when it first came out but found that my computer, my connection and I are just far too slow to even attempt to "experiment" with it.... the only conclusion I had was that this was not an experimental room but a "lets see how irritated and frustrated we can make the players room"... that experiment worked and only a very few with really super computers and connections can even bother to try that room. 99% of the UO population can't get beyond the first room.

I played around in there a few times, but just didn't have as much fun as I do smashing Navrey or spanking Medusa or Stygian Dragon. It's a cool idea; but like many things UO poorly implemented. I love the game, but holy poop it needs some lovin.

Do you have always run up? I forgot about that when I tried a few months ago after not being there for some year or so. It takes some time but I hadnt to many problems except when I ran to the wrong colours. I play from europe on an east coast shard, I have a very good internet conn but then I have to cross the Atlantic so it really doesnt mather and also a rather new comp.

Seeing this thread inspired me to return to this puzzle set today. I managed to complete it after much raging (because of my inability to conquer the final room with any ease) and successfully received a reward. In the end I used the one-sided tactic, it's cheap but running across both sides really wasn't working for me. Probably doesn't help I keep an eye on the item in my Inventory, as opposed to the words above my head...

I did it on Europa two weeks ago in the Enhanced Client; If you're getting booted straight away, you're hitting the wrong colour. It confused me at first, but then I started paying close attention to the Pinco's UI instead, which will report the exact square you need to go too as soon as the gem changes, and I'm able to do it first try every time now. This is no help to those in Classic Client of course, but it's definitely working at least...

If my memory is correct its been a few years but dont you go to the opposite colour of the gem not the colour it changes to? That might be were your going wrong

Vwrmic and I went to the room today, and although he was having a little difficulty again at first, we both got through it in the end, so it's absolutely still working for both clients I soulstoned Lockpicking to speed up the process, and I did notice something however... is it easier to solve these puzzles with it than it was for the Nexus Deed? I'd fail around 1 in 2 tries to predict the next step for the Nexus, but I managed to solve all 3 for the Underworld dropping only once or twice on each. Not that I'm complaining mind!

Use teleport... its Muuuucchhhh easier with teleport.

Yes, after much frustration, I did finally manage to get it done. It certainly never used to be this difficult and often I was kicked simple because my character froze. I'm not going to complain about lag issues since we all have them. So let's conclude that it can be accomplished, it's just a darn pain in the bum!
