I fought the meer at Trinsic (Lake Austin) for hours last night to no avail. The Bane did not capture the city.
Great Lakes won in Cove.
Origin, I know, lost in Vesper (first targeted city), not sure about Skara (which was the second targeted town).
Seems like, perhaps, invasions on alternating days?
Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

On Catskills, Skara Brae was saved. Havent seen them in any other City yet. The Town Criers are just yelling that Skara was saved right now.
This morning I was the only one in Minoc fighting the bane. Ophidians didn't seem too interested, and the Meer grudgingly attacked Bane that chased me into their area. I killed maybe two dragons and a few recruits, resulting in a resounding victory for the town.
seems like everyone and their mom is fighting for the good side. Well reasonable result considering being good guys you get much better return. (Arty Katana + Focus Crystal + Blackrock Stew Recipet + Only Lose Bane Loyalty)
I tried to play the bad guys side and failed to invade and only thing you will get is Focus sashes, and you lose triple points for going against Meers and Ophidians.
Is it even possible to invade the cities?

There is a text for the town criers in the CLILOC (at location 1150010) which declares "Victory To Virtue Bane!" and presumably means the Bane have won in a city. On Europa, Trinsic has been the only city attacked, and has been defended, although the town criers didn't declare this until many, many hours later after about 50 of us spent 2-3 hours constantly killing the Bane. So I'm not sure what the victory and lose conditions actually are...
. They are still up in Vesper there. If anyone wants help killing one I'ma be standing next to one near the tailor for a few mins.
How is it announced when and where the invasion takes place? All I see on Napa is the criers reporting that the Bane were defeated in Skara Brae. Otherwise I can find no indication of invasions anywhere.
I noticed a few minutes ago that the Haven town crier on Oceania was shouting that Virtue Bane's army succeeded in taking control of Skara Brae. I went to check it out and all I saw in town were a few bluish colored bone daemon type NPCs, all with demon-type names in red. They were thinly scattered around inside the town. My character has 0 loyalty to any side, and those guards did nothing to her (i.e., did not flag). They're just wandering around. Two people were slowly working on killing them, but I have no idea if the guards are respawning or not.
Took the ferry to the mainland and didn't see anything near the docks or crossroads or ranger huts.
I'm pretty much out of the loop on what's going on, since this is my first time in about a month actually running around and looking at stuff. Not sure if this is what the OP wanted to know or not.

What's going on fiction-wise: A demon lord named Virtuebane (or Virtue Bane) has recruited humans, known as the Bane Chosen, to his cause, is holding the Queen's husband hostage, has been encouraging us to attack the Meer on his behalf, and has occupied Magincia Island. Now, his forces, consisting of the human Bane Chosen and demon bosses, are invading what appears to be one town at a time. They don't attack you (mostly) unless you have attacked them in the past. The implication being, I think, "you have nothing to fear, normal life will go on once we're in charge." Which is likely complete excrement.
What's going on games mechanics-wise: Bad guys in Magincia Island, near the Spirituality Moongate in Ilshenar, and now invading what appears to be one town at a time, randomly. Town Criers will tell you what town is invaded, and if the bad guys have conquered the city or the good guys have beaten them back. It's unknown what determines victory, but I have a good guess.
What you saw is the immediate result of the bad guys winning: Normal town guard replaced by powerful, attackable, red demon guards.

I think Oceania has failed in Skara Brae...at least that was a notice I saw...we need reinforcements if anyone is willing to transfer and aid a smaller shard.
I'll try to check it out if I get some time down the road, have a necro mage there. I may lag too much, only be able to rez others ;P. I'm hoping, should there be more invasions, I'll get a chance to play on my home shard, as well.

Don't think you have; I was keeping a fairly close watch yesterday as I need a little more loyalty before I can get the receipe. All day there was nothing but the town criers/Sherry shouting about victory in Trinsic.
I seriously doubt it was intended to be a one-time event, the invasion is either a) broken (gasp!), b) requires Dev intervention to begin the next phase (which seems like poor planning on their part, considering their desire for a break) or c) has a rest period that is just annoyingly long.
G.V.P., my lag to Oceania last night from western USA seemed to be the same as it's always been (i.e., very playable if you're not reckless), as far as just running around goes. Can't say what it is inside a house though because I dropped the house I had there the last time I played there about a month ago. Before I dropped the house in mid-November, I had noticed definite lag spikes just walking into the house, and it usually only had about 200 items in it (sometimes up to 1000 before unravelling junk). I also didn't go to Luna last night, so I'm not sure how bad it is there with the more concentrated player housing.
