We have greater dragons that take 5 slots it would be nice if we could say train an imp to the same power as a gd but the better it got the more slots it would take

And like a lama could be trained to be as good as a cu but would then take 4 slots

Would make it more fun to see other pets being used as I've seen mentioned in other threads
Then you wouldn't have the issue with everyone running around with a gd in pvm or a dread in pop

Would make a whole lot more interesting and to see what people come up with like a pink battle chicken tanking a boss
Plus less lag

I like the Imp idea. It would be nice to see a pet with the same sort of power level as a GD but small enough not to block out everything. When a couple GD's get on a monster during an event its very hard to see whats going on.

I'd prefer a fairy dragon.... or skree to be more powerful like the GD. Skree has some good qualities but really isn't powerful like the greater. Now if it was what a pet it would be! And nice an manageable in size.

They could do it for all animals so even a snake could be the new gd hehe

Imp and chicken were the first two to pop into my head

As long as the pet isn't rideable..I don't see it as a horrid idea but they would have to be skill based so as you can not tame a deer at 0-10 taming then need it up to level 10 and its strong..that would be bad..but say u tame a deer at 0-10 every level you raise that there deer needs higher taming to control it and can only go so far..I've always wanted to train my llama so it doesn't die in the first magic arrow...

Edit..it would be hard to balance considering if the better the pet the better it trains..because your left with GD still being the best and etc etc...

There are already some interesting animals in the new dungeons, like the Demon Mongbats. Too bad, that those are not tameable.
We have a lot of creatures in game, which could be great animals for a tamer, but unfortunately they have the flag of not being tameable.
Another thing would be to have companions, which you can train up and bond with, like you do with animals.
Why a necromancer should not be able to improve his summons or make up a companionship with a lich in the wilderness? The vet reward lich statue could serve to summon this lich from the void similar like a pet ball.
Or a mage might have a tamed daemon on his side ...

Give me back my anchient wyrm oh with the same AI ... you watch the reds disapear in fel...... joey loved to invis himself an pounce on them for breakfast....
Then it would be worth me walking ..... not a bloody stupid slow GD who cant get out of its own way... much less not hunt its own dinner up.

While I see pets' training as a very important aspect of Taming, I am not in favour of the ability to be able to train any pet to the same power. I favour the variety of pets in their differing assortment of skills, pack instinct, strengths and weaknesses because it makes it for a Tamer to have to know their pets and, depending on the type of hunt, decide which pet is better fit for the task. If pets were to be trainable to the same extents, there would be no more need to have variety in the stables, just 1 pet trained to the fullest extent, be it an Imp, a Greater Dragon or whatever would be ok for all kinds of different hunts. I think this would make taming less interesting to what it is now.

I think you have read my post completely wrong poops. Ever pet would still be different as they are now,
For instance an imp is purely magic. A mongbat it purely melee, a fairy dragon is a mystic.

So they would all still be different and used in different fights for different reasons, the only difference would be that an imp would have the same lvl of power as a gd e.g hit points and skill levels. I suppose a good example is a rune beetle v a dreadmare they are both 3 slot pets but complete different skill sets and used in different rights for different reasons but there the same power lvl I.e 3 slots
