Would have made UO at least a little better than it is today. And the only reason anyone should be crying about it is if they cheat. It and other things like it are used in all kinds of popular online games now (Call of Duty for example), and aren't spyware or any of that bull**** that people give as an excuse for not wanting it.

You can believe PB would have fixed your UO world, but much as I despise cheats, I know they wouldn't have vanished had PB arrived. PB would have caught the dumb casual cheats first, leaving the ones who could keep writing new code to run rings around it. It's a pity PB didn't come in actually, to show you once and for all that it couldn't handle the job. And I'd have saved money on my subs cos I'm pretty sure it won't run on Linux
I don't cheat, I'm quitting at the end of this billing cycle because I'm tired of seeing cheats, but I'm still not supportive of PB as the solution because it wouldn't have solved the problem. You can accuse players of whatever you like because they disagree with you, but the truth is PB wouldn't have stopped UO cheats. Only EA getting off their collective arses will do that, and they don't want to bother. Hence why I'm leaving. If they can start making a regular and concerted effort to do more than add pixelcrack, I might return.

As Wenchkin said PB wouldn't have solved all of UO's cheating problems, but it would have eliminated most of the people who just download someone else's programs, because most of those types of people are to stupid and/or lazy to write their own.
Honestly EA has dug their own hole with UO. The majority of the people left playing UO are cheaters, so they can't ban them all and no honest player will recommend UO to any of their friends.
I just hope they keep their UO failures in mind when they're looking for their next job. Which given the way things are going, will probably be very soon.

Like Colter said, Punkbuster would have stopped it enough, because I don't know anyone that uses their own programs. They just download the most popular ones, which would equal bans with PB. The people who are really dedicated to cheating would keep doing it, but it would help enough that it wouldn't be the majority of the playerbase that's using cheats and scripts.
But to play devil's advocate, considering one program site was openly bragging that they knew how to work ahead of PB, I'm not sure that in the long term PB would have nuked even casual cheats.
*shrugs* I'd rather get rid of those guys who make a stack of cash from UO and deter normal players, than ban the casual cheats and leave behind the hardcore cheats. It's the ones who've cheated and earned money for years that annoy players most.

Honestly the man power they would have to put into stopping all the cheaters and all the updates PB would need to stay on top of things to catch them would be a waste of rescourse for the amount of revinue UO actually brings in. It's not like UO is some sort of cash cow, so why waste that much money on something that they can deal with here and there when they have time.
Honestly if the cheats were going to make you quit you would have done so by now, cause they've been around since day 1.

WHich many UO players have. Did you hear all the complaints of those with Win98 who couldn't play with the last patch? Again, your logic....
funny pimkbuster is used in WAR i believe, and there are some folks who still manage to not get killed, Cheating is in every game somehow or anotehr, I dont like it nor do i have to liek it, I do send in reports when i have messages fomr gold sellers in WAR.
Put it in UO, it does not seem to cause lag or any of the other things it is accused of, IMHO Bring it into and impliment it into Ultima Online!!
