Devs...Request for Home Vaults!!

I am requesting that we bring in an item that everyone will find use for and they will greatly help improve a few issues. The idea... A house Vault.

Vault:
Storage 250 items.

But the big key to this request is as follows:

Make it so that access is granted on by character. Should be too difficult to do since the coding to accomplish this is already in game. Use the security feature that is in place when adding access to houses via the menu option where you target the individual. Of course to make this really secure you would need to make it so that person was not able to add others to the access list.

For me and I am sure most others this will help with a big problem. My bank only holds so many items. When having multiple accounts I store checks in a chest that available in a private house that only a few characters have access. The fear is that if one of my accounts becomes compromised it is very easy for them to gain access to everything using the friends/guild/co-owner options available. Atleast with only allowing characters they would have to have the exact character to gain access. I know... it's not full proof by any means.. but it does make things a little more secure. Besides there are some chests that I just don't want to share with all friends and would like to only give 1 person access.

Oh... and as an added bonus. Make it so that if they try to drop the house to get the item that it remains locked and simply decays. If it decays maybe before it was to disappear completely the rightful owner would have a change at getting to it. But in any case... I would rather it decay then to let it fall into the criminals hands.

Okay everyone... blast away at the flaws in my idea :)

Umm, if your account gets compromised then whoever does the compromising will have access to all of your characters anyway so this would be a pretty useless security measure IMO. Having something that you want to give access to only a handful of people would be useful to some extent but we have mailboxes for that. Drop off what you want them to have/use in their mailbox.

maybe a better solution is to have a combination on the the vault...perhaps a combo of series of runes and manually entered password to obtain access...that you can set when you place the item. then anyone who knows that combination of runes and enters the password can have access.

then anyone with that combination can get into it

Mailboxes use the same security levels provided by the standard containers.

Yes.. if they was to gain access to the main account that placed the vault then they would have everything. But when you have multiple accounts you hope that maybe it would happen to an account that wasn't allowed access to everything.

Main point being... I have a friend I want to give access to money that we both use as a fund because we have a business of selling items and split profits. I am able to give only him access versus all the friends listed on house security. Then the only way someone could get the vault would be someone that gained access to the main account that placed the vault or if they was to gain access to the exact character given access. Someone could get ahold of any other account that I possess and never have access to the vault.

Combination would be a great idea.

we have containers with locks and keys already, why not just use that? just make containers set to owner only inoperable to anyone else.

Not quite sure I understand you here?

Explain to me a little better in detail what you mean please.

i believe you can lock a secured chest, so have a carpenter make a couple chests which your character can lock and keep the key. your other account players can't open it unless they are gm lockpickers or have the key themselves.

Problem with that is if you trap a monster with it it will destroy the container making everything in the chest fall to the ground

Sounds to me like you might benefit from a chest that has a combination lock on it. Every time you try to open it a gump pops up and you have to input a special code to open it.

Remember to read more than the first post before replying. Didn't mean to copy your idea Tay, just hadn't gotten to it before I had to throw my 2 cents in.

Can you even lockpick a secure container? I have a GM but have never tried to do such a thing.

The other option would be to just use the current system in which friends are allowed to lock down a container within your home...I believe only owner and person who locked it down have access.

The combination lock sounds great...but I would rather see time spent fixing stuff that is broken rather than adding more stuff right after an expansion.

This is the most viable option. I believe you may even be able to co-own your friend, have him secure it, then downgrade him to a friend (if you so chose) and he'd still be able to open it even if you accessed it co-owner.

I think that's how it works anyways...
