Devs ... It kinda sucks the Asian shards get the Lions Share??
I would like to assume that EA plans on at least eventually giving the 11th Anny items to us. Perhaps with purchase of SA we'll get 10 tokens per character, like with the 9th Anny upgrade and the Heritage Tokens...

Well if you'll go read the UO Japan webpage they are no longer offering the netcafe service. So all the Japanese players are having to pay for their own individual subcriptions like we do in the US and Europe.
Still sucks they get all the goodies like Toko dye tokens, 11 Anni tokens, AoS and Toko dye colored slimes and New Years items! Well at least we know who the favorite child is!

What exactly is the "netcafe service"?Well if you'll go read the UO Japan webpage they are no longer offering the netcafe service. So all the Japanese players are having to pay for their own individual subcriptions like we do in the US and Europe.

Basically I think They had computers setup at netcafes to play UO beyond that I'm not entirely sure.

Sorry but it irks me beyond belief that I have played UO for 11+ years CONTINUOUSLY - NO BREAKS and yet I am treated like the red-headed stepchild. I can't really remember in those 11+ years ever feeling so mistreated as I do right now. It was bad enough the Japanese got the 11th Anniversary items a month before we supposedly were to get them, but now almost 2 months AFTER we should have been able to obtain them, they refuse to give us any substantial information about it or even explain why we haven't gotten them yet.

and we have slime's , we just have crudy dark colors.
@THP - Where did you get the idea that "asian shards are normally shared internet servers/cafe type things"? They are run by the local EA branch (and possibly with their local business partners), not some shady setup at a mall.
Now if you're not referring to the servers but are talking about clients - I think having netcafes that are able to host UO clients can only be considered a marketing gimmick and also a good way for a guild to play together, like booking the entire lab in your campus so that you and your buddies can play net games...
It's good advertising too.
To keep playing with an account, they'll still need to pay subscriptions. I doubt the netcafe owner would subscribe to an account and let customers use his account. Plus, we still have a problem with customers deleting characters that other people have setup...
If they are using trial accounts, then it's just a marketing strategy to get more people to play UO.
@Aboo - I remember there was already a huge japanese/korean population and guilds back when UO started, esp on Baja and Pac. They only got their own shards a couple of years later, but that doesn't mean that they have not been playing and paying for the past 11 years.
It's just that EA Japan is so much more aggressive on their marketing strategy and comes up with alot of gimmicks to get players. They have almost free reign to do what they need for their customer base. Including a dev team that Draconi flew over to train.
I remember one Japanese poster mentioned that there was once a contest where the winner could bring a pretty AV (porn) actress on a real life date! ...erm...hmm...wha...oh nevermind...
I just wish EA US/EU/AU marketing would pay as much attention to their customers as well and give the same content to every shard. I mean the contents of course, not the actress.
Regarding New Year items, I know it's considered a shard event and the Asian shards got shafted for the past 10 years in event items. But come on, it's the new year everywhere! Can't a different theme be done for the other shards? I don't even have a problem if they can't think of different themes on the non-japanese shards and just copy the entire shinto temple thingy. Hopefully this will fall under the EMs' care from now on.
AOS Slimes - Ok, also an event. Alot of people complained about the vibrant Tokuno dye colours hurting their eyes on the forums during TOT1 and we now get crappy colors at TOT2 and slimes...sigh...
At the same time, the Japanese loved it, and EA Japan sold the tokens... So EA - Listen to me - most of us LOVE the vibrant AOS colors, please sell them and bring back the vibrant colours at the next slime event!
Finally, they really need to hurry up and release the anni tokens for purchase outside Japan. This is definitely not an event. They are just being slow...

Asheron's Call lacked a lot. The pvp server was fun though.
Anyway, the best thing about that game was that every single month no matter what you got a new story line filled with quests etc. I wish UO could produce like that.

Japanese players make up 75% of the total playerbase, so it only makes sense that they get more than us. Also, EA Japan is a separate entity, goverened by different laws, so they have a lot more freedom in what they can do, not to mention a larger budget to do it with.
Personally, I've never been one that has to keep up with the Jones's. We'll get ours in due time.

I ask because my shards are listed from highest population, to lowest population, and the Japanese shards are always near the bottom.
And to whoever is in charge of these things. Have the courage to say what is up, even if it is to say "not happening". It looks tacky to do otherwise.

It's arranged American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and lastly, Oceanic.
It's been said before by the devs, other than Atlantic, the other highest pop servers are all Japanese ones.

I have found that I very rarely disagree with you, this will be one of those rare times.
It was one thing to give the Japanese the 11th anniversary items a month before they were to be offered to us. It's an entirely different thing to have it almost 2 months PAST when they said we would be able to obtain them (and about 3 months past when the Japanese got them) and not a single word as to why we haven't gotten them yet or when we might be able to expect them. Only Draconi saying not to give up hope.
I pay for my MULTIPLE accounts just like the Japanese do. I have played for 11+ years. Why am I being treated like the step-child? Even an answer I didn't like would be better than being ignored.
Why if the Japanese are going to continue to get things a LONG time before we can, do they not make it so that they CANNOT be transferred off the original shard they were obtained on??? They are just allowing anyone who can get them to make bookoos off of people who are less fortunate.
I was pretty upset over this until an ice storm killed my electricity. I haven't had electricity since tuesday. We did get a generator yesterday so I was able to charge my laptop so I can at least see what's going on. LOL
I don't know what would be the reason to make us wait so long on these items. If it is going to be another month or more I just wish they would tell us.

Just a general observation.
It's funny that people are so quick to point out "majority vs. minority" when talking about Trammel vs. Felucca or Production Shards vs. Siege Perilous... when they're on the side of Trammel or Production Shards.
When they're in the majority, "majority vs. minority" makes perfect sense.
When they're in the minority, "it's not fair."

Do you not understand the whole "different development team" concept? You can't claim that you are being treated like the "redheaded step child" when it's not the same entity that is deciding who gets what.
In layman's terms: They get different promotions/items etc. simply because their development team is more active in that department. I would imagine they get different customer service as well, and it wouldn't surprise me if they get less canned messages from the GM's. (granted I have no clue if that's correct... it's just a guess).
The reason that their development team is more active in that department is probably related to four things:
1. user population
2. cultural differences
3. they want to maintain/enlarge a certain player base foothold in japan for other games as well
4. perhaps the employees are simply more motivated... or more talented...
It has absolutely NOTHING to do with you or whether or not you've paid for your subscription blah blah blah. Get over it.
As for players making millions by selling these items to the less fortunate... basically you're claiming that it's EA's fault that people are pathetic little impatient whiners who can't wait a few months to get something and would rather enrich someone else who is preying on their "I want it NOW" attitude. Please... if they've got the UO gold/cash and they're too immature to wait... that's their problem.
