Although I managed to miss a good portion of the event moderator scenario (I was back and fourth between different games at the time), I truely did enjoy those that I did make it for here on Baja. They were hosted by EM Vincent (also known as Archimedes the Old), who put a great deal of effort into creating a great storyline. He worked hard to make sure those who actually wished to be involved had that opportunity. You could visit his office now, and pretty much expect him to pop in almost daily. He was a great roleplayer, and even went as far to create an anti-Guard known as the "Partisans of Chaos", having the two sides locked in a constant state of competition (somewhat of a story-based Order vs. Chaos, with occasional but infrequent PvP so that even Feluccans had a chance to jump on board).

Unfortunately, its only a matter of time before this thread is flamed into oblivion, namely by those punks who missed out on script looking some "phat lewts to dupe, doodz!" You could pretty much expect any rare items to instantly disappear before anyone knew they were there, and show up on eBay the next day. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I think the best solution, would be to combine the event moderators and the scenarios. What if this invasion were progressing, but often an event moderator would pop in on each individual shard, perhaps to lead a charge or defeat a unique monster storming through the moongate? Leave all the fancy rares on the regularly spawning monsters, because those who enjoyed the EM Events were there for the story, not the loot. They don't even need one for every shard, just a small team of individuals in charge of creating events on the shards and helping the communities there.

GM interaction and events were some of the greatest concepts, especially for a virtual world like Ultima.

I remember when Nystul helped us build the tower at Lord British's castle. I remember when Dupre was fighting the undead in Trinsic. I remember Dawn slaying Lord Blackthorn. These weren't typical mindless MMO quests, these were real people in real scenarios.

I enjoyed the scenarios of our EM Jordan Jurell very much (when I got to partake, but that´s another cup of tea entirely).

I think the only way to keep this fair is (sadly) not to allow EM´s to hand out rewards with properties, i.e. personalized, honarary items are ok, sandals with resists are not.
I know this stuff can have enormous monetary value, but then nobody forces you to buy them.

And if they absolutely have to give some super-item to manage the end-baddie, make it lose it´s properties after the event.

Give out a hundred items with a million properties its the only fair way. I hate seeing like ten different items !! WE need more
EM's come back and toss everyone a bone.

I also want a toilet made of gold

That toilet might be a tad bit cold on the toosh. Personally I want a toilet that has a heated seat and has built in water spouts and a dryer so you don't even have to wipe the water spots clean the tooshy and the dryer dries it.

I like the lighted bowl part and the remote control. That way at night on the way to toilet I can hit a button and raise the seat and turn the bowl light on and go #1 and then hit the flush button on the way back to bed. LMAO Can you imagine having a second remote that way you can activate the features while the whifey is on the seat without her knowing about it. too funny.

I too miss the counselors and EM's. They were always so much fun, and the fact that they actually came to YOU when you paged them was the great thing about them. And they knew how to have fun just at random and joke around, hehe, unlike the GM's now who rarely even pop up now days.

I hate to break it to you, vine cord sandals weren't from an EM event! But I do miss our gold sashes infecting the banks!

"We have come to the conclusion that our community is better served by focusing our attention on developer-created Live Events."

Events OR scenarios. TBH they could work well together, each shard's outcome assisted by the EM.

I really think its just financial cutbacks, with the best excuse they can think of. Event moderators brought a lot to UO and, while not quite the old IGMs and Seers, they were a lot more diverse and dynamic than current live content.

The diversity seems to be the tent location and annoying blockades around the rift. With the EM program you had each shard being different with its own histories. Sadly, the program didn't really last long enough and wasn't given enough freedom, IMO, to be able to even do that. With more time, tools and freedom, in-game events could have done all kinds of things from simply assisting player-run events all the way to delivering content like we are seeing now and the program could have been central to UO's future success.

I am sure many of us are getting a bit bored of Wisps and Berserkers and whatnot. Imagine if there was a bit of EM intervention on some shards, say spawning extra monsters or leading a bunch of NPC guards around or maybe placing some decoration around to assist role-players or player healing stations. I think it was a big mistake to cut the event moderators and really they could have added that personal, more immersive touch, that blanket-published content we are seeing now lacks and eventually leads to it becoming predictable and boring.

One of the things I miss the most about EM run events is the definitive beginning and end. an event started, you had a goal, and once you achieved that goal it was either wait until the next chapter unfolded at a given time, or it was the end of the event. either way you knew when you hit the end, and you knew when to stop spinning your wheels

Whats so wrong with respected players VOLUNTEERING to set up game events while being watched from the higherups..

Really how many players would agree to to something like this without any pay or expecting anypay and sign an agreement with EA based on this??

I would in a heartbeat..

Legal issues. If it was that easy, they wouldn't have axed counsellors, seers, companions etc. Note that companions with powers still exist, I guess because what they did really was voluntary and unpaid.

TBH thats really what i'd like EMs to do. Assist and provide more stuff for players to make events with. Simple things like locking things down, providing decor, spawning stuff... similar to spawn points for seers?
