DEV - Virtues, badly in need of overhaul

Ok, virtues are one of the fundamentals of UO, is one of the things that set UO apart from other games and its featured prominently on our paperdoll.

But yet, they haven't really received any attention in many years.

Here's my suggestions:

1. Virtues should not decay when offline. Nothing is more frustrating than not playing a char for a while and then having to start all over again on all the virtues. Either:
A. Have virtues decay when you're logged on with the char, but at a slightly accelerated rate. (to offset the points not decaying when logged off)
B. Have virtues go down depending on usage. When you self-ressurect, it costs points, when you ress others it costs a small bit of points, when you honor move, it costs point.

2. Add the missing virtues. Its a disgrace that UO has yet to complete one of its oldest and very important systems.

Before anything they definitely need to add the missing virtues. I remember being excited years ago when they were adding in the virtue system and eagerly awaiting the next virtue. But then there came a point when that next virtue never came. And has yet to come. Although I am still eagerly waiting. Just not so much anymore.

So an overhaul is simply adjusting the decay on current virtues and adding the missing virtues? Not really an overhaul, More just finishing it..

Anyway, I do agree with your point on virtue points decaying when your offline, Shouldn't happen.

Personal guesswork only, but I wonder if the developers lost interest in the virtues when they realised how unvirtuously players used them. In particular, at the time, the camping of Chaos shrine by blues when reds were automatically transported there if they died in a dungeon.

That would be like dropping Chivalry in the game simply because Sampires exist.

I can still recall the intense disappointment when, after being away from the game for just over 6 years, I came back recently, clicked on my character to see where I'd left him, and saw that although his virtues hadn't decayed whilst my account was closed, only ONE more had been implemented during those years. Such a shame...

Incidentally, that one virtue, Honor, at least seems to decay when used. Sacrifice might do too, but I've got so used to just running for a healer I've never thought to try it! And the others you can still at least keep a "buffer" of from your actions so it's about a month before you need to repeat the action...

Not really an over-hall.

They need to finish the virtues.

Also using the "honor move" is the only way to actually gain honor, honoring yourself looses honor, so what are you asking there?

Self resing costing points would kinda break knight of sac, i mean, you get 3 reses a week with knight, using one would knock you down to follower where you only have 2, which you just used.

How would you loose compassion? Resurecting people?

I'd be fine with them just finishing the virtues.
