wow, this is the first ive heard of this. I really hope the housing issues get addressed soon. We still have timers that are very far off. If you need help replacing the house please PM me and ill gladly log on an account to give you a second opinion.

it's nothing. Houses that had been placed for years became illegally placed when custom housing first came in.
It only becomes a problem if you drop the house and try to replace.
Leave it alone, it's fine.

patches sometimes will make your places go improperly placed. The land sifts, but not fear this is what you do....
get a ride able a fast as you possibly can ride your ride clockwise around your place, have your character sing around the mulberry bush (but say house instead of mulberry bush ) keep doing til house goes properly placed.

Yes illegally placed doesnt mean anything besides, if you were to try and resize your home it just wouldnt go back to the size it is currently at due to the improperly placed status. You would have to place smaller. Your home will not drop and should not be deleted At All. If a Gm deleted one before as you say there must have been other circumstances. My old castle would go in and out of illegally placed status when my back neighbor would change the style/setup of his steps to his home behind me. I figured it out after about a year lol and asked him to change his steps again, everything went back to normal as I like it. You may want to look into that as the issue but again unless you plan on resizing your home that status means absolutely nothing. Hope that helps calm ya a bit amd anyone else in this situation. 
What Ev said. I've had some of mine do that as well, when the neighbor would change his. Ain't no thang.
