Declaration of (Open) Relationship to the Britannian Monarchy

I suspect that something very similar to what I'm about to suggest will be implemented along with the Town Banner System on Baja.

...But why not?

What if there was a registry (similar to what we have with the Purity League Storyline) that allowed guilds and player-run states to declare their relationship to the Kingdom of Britannia (and Queen Dawn)? You could choose between Vassalage or Fealty (Citizenship), Friendship, Neutrality, Hostility or an Open Declaration of War. The registry would be kept in an IC function by the Queens version of a Francis Walsingham; who I suspect would be Elias Ashmole.

(And of course this is an Open Statement. Your Guild or State could publically swear fealty to the Queen while privately be working to undermine Britannia. It makes for a good story.)

This wouldn't necessarily have a direct impact on our current storyarc (and declaring neutrality or hostility alone wouldn't inspire an invasion of your functional territory); but it would impact how Queen Dawn interacts with the various heads of state throughout Greater Sosaria. And because Seppo and Crysania are the functional leaders of the Britannian and Gargish Governments on Baja it would prove useful for our IC interactions.

Thoughts?

Hmm, but then what would be the point of this? I don't think Queen Dawn really addresses anyone in particular anyways. Just a few hello's here and there.

Did you have a larger idea in mind? I don't think this would be a bad idea, and technically, we could even set up our own like the guild directory thread.

I'm planning on doing just that at some point in the future. I made the first step towards such a compendium with the Ethereal Vortex; listing some locations as belonging either to the 'Britannian Kingdom' or 'Dawnite Kingdom.'

I don't think most folks (not even most roleplayers) realize just how many nations and states populate the lands we currently inhabit. There is (New) Britannia ruled by Queen Dawn; which includes everything from the NPC Trinsic and Skara Brae to the PRC Township of Golden and the County of Berg. The Magincian Republic ruled by its elusive Parliment (Anon and the Council of Mages). I was given the impression at some point in the past that Nujel'm is ruled by a Sultan who swears fealty to the Britannian monarch. Delucia and Papua are finally confirmed to be independent. Luna (which I suggest is Olympus of Ultima lore). Umbra. The Empire of Zento. The Empire of Tel Mur. Ver Lor Reg (Gargish), Heartwood (Elven) and Lakeshire (Meer); of whom the latter we can assume to be ruled by Adranath and Dasha.

There is the Kingdom of Dawn ruled by Prince Riain (and Stewardess Wildstar). The Isle of Elevere and the Savage Isle of the Rebels. The Village of Avalon. Horseshoe Isle.

At some point I intend to have a database of all this information. But my current purpose is simply to get folks thinking about who they are and where their loyalties lie.

Did you have a larger idea in mind?
Maybe.

This is a wonderful idea!
Do you mind if I use your general idea and submit it to Chesapeake EMs to see if our shard could do something like this? Would that be okay with you? With some of the happenings on Chesapeake this would be a wonderful tool. I really like how Baja has a sign up process to be apart of certain situations.

(Sorry for intruding on your thread)

As long as you don't mind me stealing ideas from Chesapeake.

Go for it.

In a manner, don't we already do this in a more issue based format? For instance, stance on Gargoyles. You may have a stance that is aligned with that of the throne or against it.

I am not sure if I am in favor of having a registry that directly asks you to spell out your relationship towards the throne. I believe that diplomatic relationships are more issue based and not black or white. There are no permanent friends or enemies. Strange alliances may arise at any given time. This allows flexibility that might not exist otherwise.

It might be worthwhile to maintain a list of issues with a corresponding stance of the throne and various others. This would also encourage us to bring forth more issues for people to take a stand on.

Does a Citizen of the Britannian Kingdom cease to be one every time he or she disagrees with the reigning monarch? (I am under the impression that Trubo and Gideon would consider themselves Britannian.) On the other hand a Citizen of the Kingdom of the North (Dawn) wouldn't be considered Britannian just because their youthful sovereign welcomes the Gargish with playful curiosity and open arms.

I think it is the historian in me that wants to make sure the storylines remain true to shard lore; and the storyteller in me who wants to borrow what other shards do and do well (i.e. the Loyalist vs. Secessionist Conflicts on Europa) and inspire a level of persistant action and political intrigue within our own roleplaying community.

I plan to make a list (regardless) for the BRPA and Baja Stratics; the political map being something I'm shooting to do this weekend. I think it will benefit us. But the above suggestion is something that might be more attractive and inclusive to those not immidiately involved in the Baja Roleplaying Community; attracting those players with a level of officiadom and prompting them to think about their characters nationality.

I think such a survey would be very worthwhile.
