[Bushido] DCI and PARRYING

from what ive read in stratics about dci, it says:

Defense Chance Increase:
Increases your chance to dodge blows.
If before DCI is applied you have 50% chance to dodge, with 20% DCI you will have 60% chance to dodge.

ive also read uoguide and it says:
enhances your ability to defend yourself from melee or ranged attacks. It does not effect your chance to evade magical attacks.
DCI works in addition to your chance to parry, or block an attack by using the Parrying skill.

as you can see, uoguide talks about enhancing 'defense' and chance to parry/block. but stratics only talks about dodge

so, the question is: does dci enhances dodge and chance to block? im quite confused about that :coco:

another question: is high dci really a need for bushido dexxer character?
once bushido works with chance to parry, and dodge is checked before parrying, isnt it better to always try to parry 1st instead of dodge?

DCI works with your Melee skill, or Defensive skill it has nothing to do with parrying, and it is better to try and "not get hit" than it is to try and parry, so it is hard to just put down math to explain how this works. but if you have equal defensive skill to your opponents offensive skill (let us assume this is a pvm question for a moment to keep it a bit more simple) than you have a 50% chance to not be hit.

Example would be. you have 120 macing, the monster you are fighting has 120 wrestling. Macing is your defensive skill and wrestling is their offensive skill. with 0 dci they have a 50% chance to hit you. if you get 45 dci they have about a 34% chance to hit you.

After all that is checked, if they get to it you then you have a 30% chance to block if you have parry and a shield. I believe with bushido and parry and a two hander you have a 45% chance to block? Either way the 76% chance of defending is greater than the chance to parry and is checked first so having dci is an obvious advantage over having parry, having both would bring it to something like a 12pct chance to hit? I am not doing the math right now just trying to write from memory so it might be slightly off, but the main point is dci has nothing to do with parry and it is better to just not get hit at all than it is to try and parry a hit roll.

Here's some simple number crunching.

Assuming you and your opponent have the same weapon skill, he has a 50% chance to hit you. If you have 45 DCI, he has a 28% chance to hit you. If you have a 35% parry chance he has ~19% chance to hit you. If you have 0% DCI but 35% chance to parry he has a 34% chance to hit you.

For PvP situations, if you get hit with HLD, you're now down to 20% DCI, so he now has a 40% chance to hit you with no parry, and a 27% chance to hit you with parry.

Now, I'm not 100% sure on how HCI affects hit chance, but i'll assume it only adds the % to overcoming weapon skill. If you have 45% DCI and he has 45% HCI (no parry), he has ~38% chance to hit you. With 35% parry he would have ~24% chance to hit you. If he has 45% HCI and you're hit with HLD (down to 20% DCI), and you have no parry, he has a 58% chance to hit you. If all of the above are true and you have 35% chance to parry, he has a 40% chance to hit you.

Isn't number crunching fun? :)

You should all check out this link: http://uo.stratics.com/content/arms-armor/combat.php

You will find all the combat formulas there including this one:

Hit Chance% = ( ( [Attacker's Combat Ability + 20] * [100% + Attacker's HCI] ) divided by
( [Defender's Combat Ability + 20] * [100% + Defender's DCI] * 2 ) ) * 100
Minimum hit Chance% is 2% at all times.

And then the Parry check (if you were hit):

Blocking with a shield:
% Chance = (Parrying - Bushido) / 4 (If less than 0, the chance is 0)
(Add 5% if Parrying or Bushido skill is 100 or above)

Blocking with a 1-handed weapon (without a shield):
New = (Parrying * 10) * (Bushido * 10) / 48000 (Add 5% if Parrying or Bushido skill is 100 or above)
Legacy = (Parrying * 10) / 80 (Add 5% if Parrying skill if 100 or above)
% Chance = Whichever is highest of the New and the Legacy formula.

Blocking with a 2-handed weapon:
New = (Parrying * 10) * (Bushido * 10) / 41140 (Add 5% if Parrying or Bushido skill is 100 or above)
Legacy = (Parrying * 10) / 80 (Add 5% if Parrying skill if 100 or above)
% Chance = Whichever is highest of the New and the Legacy formula.

Dexterity Modifier if dex is less than 80*: (80 - Dexterity) / 100 (If Dexterity is higher than 80, the modifier is 0)
Final % Chance of blocking = Base Chance * (1 - Dexterity Modifier)
