DCI and parry

is it true that if i have 50 DCI then the bonus granted by parry is negligible to the point where i do not actually have to have the skill as a sampire, whammy, throwing whammy, etc. and still be able to kill peerless monsters such as stygian dragon and medusa

That doesn't sound quite right. 45 dci is max. I don't use parry on my sampire, but that's because I find that I heal more damage with anatomy/healing than I defend against with parry.

With 120 parry, 120 bushido, and a 1-handed weapon, your chance to parry is 35%. If you're holding a shield with both bushido and parry, your chance is 5%.

With 0 parry and 120 bushido, your chance to parry is 5%, regardless of whether you are holding a shield.

With 100 anatomy, you receive a 55% damage bonus and a 16% healing bonus.

Thus, your choice is between: (a) 30% extra chance to parry or (b) 55% damage bonus and 16% healing bonus. I find that the extra health that I leech from 55% damage bonus, coupled with the healing bonus, causes me to heal more damage than I would defend against with parry.

I may switch up to healing as well. I'm currently using this template:

120 Swords
120 Bush
120 Parry
100 Necro
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
60 Chivalry

Just finalized the toon yesterday, so went out to do some testing. I'm at 70/70/55/70/70, 45 hci, 35 dci atm, fought lesser hiryu's without much issue, but full hiryus basically whipped me. I honored, EoO'd, ConsWep, using LS a ton, some AI (using UBWS leafblade)...even with confidence, evasion, feint...I was pretty much getting dropped in 3-4 hits. I have bout 130 health, 150 stam...not sure what I'm doing wrong. Possibly not swinging fast enough? Wep has HML, HLD, no SSI....so perhaps i need HLA. Just thinking if I can't handle hiryu, not gonna have a chance against peerless, etc.

You need ssi on your weapon. Hiryu can drop you from 180 stam to 120 in one hit. They can also lower your phys resist by 10 points.
Usually i have no real problems with hiryus using a dragon slayer leafblade and 35 ssi... Except some days ago one did manage to drop me at tokuno spawn in 2 seconds while i didnt pay full attention, damage was like 18,55,18,60 in 2 hits.
So with 130 hp, if you take one hit and didnt land feint or keep missing it, run and heal up, then go back.

I was a bit overconfident the first attempt, based on lesser hiryu success, got whacked hard and fast on full hiryu first go-round. Next attempt, was better, but could never get upper hand on him...kept having to run off and confidence/close wounds. Tried a few times, changing up tactics with around LS, AI, Evasions, Feints, Confidence, pots, etc...none were overly convincing. I need to work on suit a touch more, and stats (I can come down on the 56 INT I have), and obviously weps. Debating going to Fencing as well, so I'm not forced into UBWS leafblades. All my swords weps are PvP.

Have you tried melee in PvP without parry? How did that go?

No, I wouldn't drop parry on any toon but a sampire and I wouldn't use a sampire to PvP. My PvP dexxer has parry.
