Just wondering if Darsus is just a generic name in TGF or if its all the same guy becuase everywhere I look I see houses owned by him. Its like hes trying to buy up the whole of Europa. Luna, Malas, Tram.. etc everywhere!!!

I'm sure no-one could want that many plots and who on earth has the money to keep that many accounts open (I must have seen over 20).

Meh free up some of those spots!!!

Do check other shards and you'll find more. Lol.

Apparently someone DOES have the money to keep the accounts open + the money to pay for the Luna plots, as a lot of them have been bought with $$ and same story goes for his rares collection.

Guess he won the lottery at some point

Cor yeah. Cant see the point in owning all of Europa's real estate though. People are leaving and things are just going down in Europa

wouldnt be too bad if people were coming back, but all I see is Darus owned houses and no-one buying them.

It does bug me when I find someone really hogging real estate, but at the same time I can't imagine a worse place to live than Luna *grins* You'd never get any sleep between the golem bashers and the BOD bots snipping up cloth. Then get blinded by the neon clothing on every shop... Eesh. Horrible place *shudders*

It always seems funny to me that people pay so much for Luna housing when really its the worst place to place a house. In Europa Luna traders are the worst! Overpriced and never actually have what you want. All I ever see there is the Bodders and Golem Trainers. All the sensible shoppers go to brit bank and wait for a gater or have the good shops marked.

Luna Shopping? Na thanks I'ld rather get what I'm looking for cheers

I know what you mean

he was a great customer of mine before we kinda had a disagreement over a keep, which i still regret today

as well as the luna TGFshops i remember him having a few keeps in trinny swamp, homes and keeps north of brit fel, and houses and a castle on the west coast in tram, it seems like everytime i placed a castle keep to sell etc, he would place next to me

i can only imagine how many accts he runs at least 20 first guess

*grins* Aye, I generally avoid all the big malls and shops nowadays. Silly prices, ugly designs and if their outfits are all the same, I'm not always sure I want to walk inside and load up their neon carpet too

I've had to turn off the show approaching names in UOA sometimes, because if I popped through a gate I'd randomly freeze to the spot while UOA tried to cope with all the vendors. It's easier to avoid shop gates than mess around re-logging and tweaking UOA just to load a flock of vendors lol.

Hmm, I shop a lot and honestly can't say small shops are cheaper than big malls. Especially when it comes to 'bigger' items.
I have 2 runebooks full of EU vendor shops and the malls are usually cheaper and better stocked.

Buy low, sell high.
I've picked up a few bargains from Luna, personally. Things priced cheaper than they are elsewhere, although they have been rare.
Ultimately, something is worth as much as a buyer will pay for it. I want a 120 parry scroll, but it's not worth 5.5mil to me... However, 5.5mil would be a fair price to someone else.

At Luna, you pay for the convenience.

And don't forget the few hundred million you need to drop in order to buy a plot there, which the buyer usually wants to earn back

5.5 is overpriced :p

And i must agree with Kaj. The smaller and less well known shops often try to sell off items at the same if not higher prices as malls. I wonder how they make money really.

Now that after a long time there is some sort of competitivity again on Europa, prices on our vendors are cheapo tbh!

I shop a lot too, though often I'm price checking rather than buying lol. But all my favourite sources are smaller shops or less known ones. Unusual items I'll look for in malls, but I won't pay over the odds for convenience if someone is taking the mickey on prices :p If it can be scripted, I don't buy it from anyone lol.

I know some large malls can sell cheaply, but some buy and sell on, which makes their prices less attractive. It's an acceptable practice if you're in a high traffic shop and stuff flies out the door, I've done it myself. I've also been the shop that stocked others more than a few times
My shop is cheap in comparison to Tram/Luna, but I certainly turn a very nice profit.

I’m sorry for veering even further off the topic of the OP, but it’s time for a gentle rant. This forum reminds me of my school days and the ‘us and them’ syndrome. The class was dominated by an ‘elite’ who made it clear in many ways subtle ways that those outside the sacred inner sanctum were just not as good as them. (And before you jump to conclusions, I was one of the elite and I look back with shame at my often condescending and disdainful attitude to some of my classmates.)

Similarly, discussion on this forum is frequently peppered with disparaging remarks that make it quite clear who is part of the ‘elite mafia’ and who is not quite good enough. Quote : “. Silly prices, ugly designs and if their outfits are all the same, I'm not always sure I want to walk inside and load up their neon carpet too” Apologies to Wenchy in advance, I’m only using this example as it’s the most convenient illustration - but unfortunately it’s not the only example of what is a sad attitude of superiority. There is a group of people on this forum who dominate discussion. Each and every one of you is a kind, caring, supportive and loving individual, but as a group you are sometimes ‘exclusive’ in the true meaning of the word.

So why does this matter ? Because if you look at the postings over the last year you will see that fewer and fewer people outside the ‘elite mafia’ are bothering to post on what should be a general discussion area for our shard. And no, I don’t think that is due solely to falling numbers in UO - I think the ‘I’ve been on UO and this board since Pa fell off the bus/I have years of experience/I know everything’ invidious attitude of superiority has a lot to do with many people steering clear of this forum. I personally know of at least one person who has left the game as a consequential result of being ridiculed here. I also know many active players who don’t bother reading this forum anymore.

I’m confident of two things :

1. I will be shot down in flames for having the audacity to criticise like this. Before you flame me, ask yourself why the Babble Thread is so active and there are so few new threads posted. Also, examine your conscience. If you’ve never made a patronising post ........ then flame away.

2. This thread will be locked. Unlike other forums for debate where open dialogue is encouraged, even if it is uncomfortable, Europa forum seems to actively discourage contentious discussion. UO Hall buzzes - perhaps because posts are often confrontational. Unfortunately, in stark contrast this forum just seems to splutter and fizzle.

*grabs the fire extinguisher and waits for the flames*

It comes very close.

As it happens I quite strongly disagree with a lot of what's been posted in this thread, on a personal level. But I try very hard to moderate fairly and so far the RoC has not been broken. Believe it or not, that is my criteria for deciding whether to lock a thread or not.

If I'm not succeeding in being as fair as I think I am I could always step down?

Think I'm well beyond thick skinned these days so no offence taken :p

But just to point out that my views are based not on any "us or them" type stuff, just taste and preference. I don't like neon and I'm a RPer, so shops with a cosy feel just appeal more. They look like shops
Everyone has their own tastes and they're allowed to express them. And as a shop owner, I'd like to know if my customers liked or disliked my layouts etc. It has nothing to do with elitism at all.

Put it this way, I started a thread on UHall reporting a bug with stuff pricing if you put it into a container on your vendor. For some reason it became a discussion about how bags on vendors were bad and lots of specialised vendors were better. All opinions stashed under the hat for use around my shop. But no need for a row over who was better because personal taste isn't elitism. Some like bags while others don't, that's all. It's the same here.

I don't think you are at all elitist by voicing your opinion
.

Anyway, I prefer cosy RP shops as well, but when it comes to my own shop the ease of which people can browse my goods and see my vendors comes first.
Visible vendors with a clear name, good stock, little to no bags and an item in front of the vendor that shows the items being sold usually does the job.
Take a look at Luna on Atlantic on how it should *not* be.
'SEE ME' 'GOOD STUFF' 'HIGH END' 'CHEAP' 'O-M-G-!!!!!!'.. And like 500 of those next to each other.
Ugh, the agony of shopping there!

rainqueen i think i can of understand what you're getting at. And tbh it's true that the forum is a shadow of it's once former glory (this is not down to moderation petra you nub).

It's not because of the posters or anything like that, it's due to the lack of them. It just so happens that a lot of people who still play and post are very opinionated, and yes, some of them are a bit "know it all". But that can't be helped. If you were a self considered expert in a subject for many years and some new guy came up out of nowhere spouting controversy, you would probably want to squash the bug!

But luckily often this is not the case. However, if someone would come onto a discussion board spouting total rubish (PKS SHOUDL BE BNANNED COS ONE KIRELD ME!111) or something, no doubt they would be flamed out of existence.

I'm glad to say i'm not part of any elite mafia, i am simply elite. I have high post count (it means im stronger on the internet) and generally own both in game and rl. I'm better than basically all the posters on any given forum. Not just at pvp, but at anything. They might have a big vendor mall, used to be a famous rare collecter, a role player etc, but the opinion that counts to me is... mine! That's why it's MY opinion. I am the epitomy of a paragon of justice. My eyes see neither uo riches nor post count, only truth.

I'm not saying "i decide" (lol petra maybe only you get this joke) but i am saying don't worry... in this world we live in there are elite mafias.. but there are also those rumoured to exist associations which are content to lay in the shadows and merely pull the strings, occasionally cutting them when they (i) see fit.

_____________________________

Small vendor shops own. If i wanted something fast and didn't care about the price, my first stop would be BWT. Theres a lot of vendors and they hold a lot of stuff. Even among the vendors there prices are different and i can "shop around".

If i just wanted something but not immediately, BWT would be my last stop. I would hit up a lot of smaller vendor houses. Actually these are generally my favourite. Not because of the merchant decoration or the style or anything like that.. merely because often there is great care taken in them, they are well stocked, and prices are often incredibly low. This is due to either not a full understanding of an item, or lack of monetary greed. There are some players who are fully aware that should they look around they could sell some things in their possessions for not inconsiderate sums, but prefer to sell cheap. It may be some sort of elaborate trojan horse kind of long term scam (knowing the guy in question this is the more likely explanation) but it could just be that they would prefer to provide good items at an affordable price.

Yes, they might get stuff bought out by people looking to resell.. but every so often there's a new guy who goes "WOW WHAT A DEAL" and is happy for the rest of the day.

Mall owner = rl mall owner.
Small vendor SHOPE (notice the e) = independent grocery store, run by father and son or some crap.

Sorry for the ranting lol.

I used BWT as example cos it's the only mall i know is still about. Also i'm not trying to put down people trying to turn a buck (it's your life), merely trying to express some of my feelings towards those who enjoy playing a vendor.

What was this thread about again?

Wherever and whatever u do ,in real life and in games there will always be a ''us and them'' .. always a ''in'' club and the ''others''...etc etc

These boards are no exception...

Please remember too that one person can have several user names too on these boards!! it always tickles me pink!! especailly with the blatant price fixing and raising and upping that happens soooo much on the '''selling'' ''for sale'' ''bargain ''posts that u often see on the other boards too, nevermind the freinds of the click etc that can be used to do exactly the same function..

Just remember peeps!!! if it can happen in real life it can happen in a game too..

ANYWAYS BACK TO THE OP

Darsus i see as the no.1 major player on Europa, hes got a awesome museum inside luna as well as 1/4 of the rest of luna city, he also owns sevral castles and keeps...each to his own.. Darsus likes UO for sure and good luck to him!!
