Cycling the cu spawn?

My tamer is almost skilled up enough to try his hand at taming cu sidhes in the Twisted Weald. Before he gives it a try, a couple of questions:

1) When tamers go to the Weald to find a keeper cu, how do they cycle the spawn? I'm mostly curious because killing wild cu sidhes give a karma hit, right? Do folks tame the ones they don't want, then release and kill them to avoid the negative karma implications, or does that just take too much time? I'm guessing it's easier to work your karma up to a high level before entering the Weald and just cull the wild cu's out until you find one you like.

2) Do experienced tamers use their own skills to mop up the less desirable cu's or do they have a pet there with them, helping out until a keeper spawns? Maybe that's not such a good option on more populated shards, since someone could nab your pup before you got back to try taming it?

In any case, thanks for the help!

Me personally, I just tame one, sick it on Swoop, release it after it gets hit a couple times, and go tame another. Come back and loot the Cu corpse and sick the fresh tamed one and Swoop again. Rinse and repeat ;)

I use the tame, get the Cu to attack a swoop or paragon or another wild cu, release, peace (the pet you just released), loot when dead, rinse and repeat.

Yes it's probably faster to just have a high karma and just kill the bad ones until a keeper spawns but it has the advantage to help me raise my taming skill while avoiding the karma loss. And besides now I'm way better at it,I have a lot of "Taming Cu's" experience ;)

But having a pet with you to help cycling the spawn id a bad idea as, yes, there is a risk than someone else will tame the good Cu that just spawned while you're going to the stable to drop your pet.

Wow, what a great and simple idea to cycle the spawn. Thanks Yen Sid and jeza!

First option is to tame a cu, then tell it to kill something (other cu sidhe, swoop etc) and let it get killed. You won't lose karma doing that. It's useful if you have 100 eval and you can para tame cu sidhe you don't plan on keeping. It's not essential though, so don't worry if you can't do that.

Second option is what I do if the spawn area is quiet. I have a bard who alternates between working up her karma and killing cu sidhe as fast as she can. I use provo and disco, as it saves me having to use a bonded pet to kill the spawn, and I can deal with paragons really easily - disco them and provo on each other, or provoke normal cu sidhe on the paragon. I do bursts of provoking all the cu sidhe on each other, discoing the weakest ones and if a paragon spawns I can kill that too. I then go and massacre some high end beasties for a karma replacement.

The second method is handy if you want to finish off bard skills and taming because you get good use of barding/taming that way. I also find it easier to do bursts of taming and PvM than taming repeatedly for an hour or more. That can get mind numbing after a while :D

I have two accounts.

My tamer is on one, my samurai/necromancers are on another. Since the warriors gain karma quickly and on a regular basis, I just use the warrior to cycle the spawn while my tamer is on hand to quickly get any good puppies.

I used to just take the karma hit and kill cu with my personal pet, but the swoop method is probably more efficient for when you find the ultra rare colors and don't want to risk losing them. You wouldn't have to go drop off your personal pet to get the rare cu.

I will add one more little thing as a FYI.

I also have two accounts both with tamers. I bring my secondary tamer down there with a bettle/mare combo so when I get to 3 para cu's, I tame the last regular one sick it on a para then have my other tamer account with the bettle combo to kill them.

With good vet you can keep your regular CU alive until the beetle combo kills it.

I use to hate it when other tamers would leave all para CU's and no way to recycle the spawn.

I use the other tactics fore simple traming.

Conrad, thanks a lot for that info :D

I too have 2 tamers on 2 different accounts but I used to wait for all the Cu's to be para, go get my GD (other tamer had the rune/mare and was waiting) and used the GD to tank until one day I killed the first paragon, a white Cu spawned and somebody else tamed it while I went stable my GD :sad3:

If no one kills the paragon cu's and that's all that's left in the Weald, will the spawn stay that way indefinitely or will the game eventually turn over those paragons? If they do turn over automatically, does it take days?

Thanks!

They will cycle of that I'm sure, but how long it takes I'm not that much. I believe it's 2 hours though.

If you are using Wenchkin's first option, this is an excellent opportunity to train Discordance or Peacemaking at 100+ skill. The tamed Cus will be at the right barding difficulty for post GM training. As an added bonus, if you are training Discordance, they will die faster if you are successful.

I think you can also run outside, gate to luna bank, and release it there.

Perhaps it'll get to munch on a red before it gets g'wacked.
