Cu Sidhe Bug?

Has anyone had trouble with the Cu's having to be commanded every single time to kill, each new monster and often several times on the same monster.

Its not the normal lag time where he might wait a few seconds before attacking, he just sits there and dies if you don't command him over and over.

I've tried feeding him, telling him to guard me, telling him to stop and re-commanding. This is the second Cu I have had this happen to, the first one started working again but who knows if it might "break" again.

The pets are wonderfully happy, fed frequently, and my skills are not an issue.
120 Tame, 115 Lore, 100 Vet.

This has only happened with the Cu Sidhe, G-Dragons, Dread Mare and Beetle seem fine.

Both times were at Demon Temple, but I have no trouble with the G-Dragon here, both times trying to raise skills on the pet.

Anyone else have a problem with your Cu Sidhe?

I've had my pets act similarly, but not sure if it's to the same degree as yours.

Often times at spawns, with both my Greater and Dread Mare, they will just sit there surrounded, taking a beating, until I command them again. Other times, they will obliterate all the surrounding monsters and search out more.

It's odd and kinda unpredictable when it will occur. I just have to keep a close eye (and ear!) on what is transpiring. If I don't hear my particular pet's fighting sounds, only hurting sounds, I immediately command him to kill again.

The only time I have the problems you described is when I accidentally peace'd my Cu.

Oh, and if they are fighting mobs that can cast mirror images.

What I do notice is that they don't do their healing thing if you don't command them to attack something first (like when you have just rezzed them and don't want to send them immediately back into the fray).

Though i have not had this issue i have read that Cu's have a funny ai and are less hostile due in part to how they are good beings. Have had a friend mention this happen to them and read some info saying its due to the passive ai they have.

There is also a bug where cu sidhe can freeze in a spot, and can't move from it. You can tell them to attack, call them, whatever and they won't move. You have to recall or mount them to un-freeze them.

But ya, it does happen now and then.

It's not the freeze bug, I've seen that one also, the pet fights with that one he just doesn't move.
I will try the mount-dismount on it next time, I didn't try that.

I just thought of something... I ran out of fruit right before he quit fighting and I fed him an enchanted apple.......stupid idea?....*runs off to test*

The freeze bug (where a pet would fight but not move) used to annoy me greatly, but to all my knowledge (and experience) it was fixed over a year ago. (Hurray!)

My Cu seems to act the same as any of my other pets. I don't have a CLUE what Avenhar is trying to say about Cus "not minding", but mine has no space in the name.

How it "should" work:

If you tell a pet to guard/kill, it should either fight whatever you tell it to, or if you don't provide a target, it'll attack whatever attacks it.

If you tell a pet to follow yourself, then it should follow you and do nothing else. Fire breathing pets will, on occasion, stop and attempt to breath fire at things attacking them (but will fail, because they're not allowed to fight back).

Changelings (such as the Travesty) and peace effects can cause a pet to stop attacking.

Cu's should heal themselves automatically regardless of whether they're in combat or not, but only if they're somewhere below roughly 90% health. Magic using pets won't cast heal spells unless they're in combat, though.

Just feeding them will unfreeze them 99% of the time I have found (also works for when the Bake Kits freeze in place)

My Experience with this has mostly been in Ilsh.

Every so often upon dismount the pet with lock in place.

Each time this happens I end up logging out to fix it.

Well then it's back. Happens to me nearly every day. Please fix it again.

Hmm... I didn't know that. I'll have to feed her instead of jumping off my ethy every time. Thanks for the tip.

Quite often if a pet is in guard or kill "mode", they wont instantly target melee creatures. Quite often they will just sit there and take a beating...eventually snapping out and attack one then take a beating again.

The best bet in these situations is to cast an AOE spell, then your pet will go balistic(if guarding). Mage casting creatures a pet will auto target.

If you're on top of the of the temple and the pet is targeted from underneath this will happen a lot. As for why it doesn't happen to your dragon, maybe whatevers underneath targeted you that day and not the pet.

Personally I find it best to not have the pet on guard so it actually listens and to use follow after every kill. However even doing this if they're targeted from underneath they still often stop fighting.

My greater always sits in the middle of the spawn getting his butt kicked... Unless i tell him to attack one, then he eats the lot! Silly beast...
