Killed a shadow ele that I saw wandering around, had crystalline blackrock on. Is this a new change?

Crystalline blackrock off ore ele in trammel?

Nope, all the ore ele's have a chance of having crysalline blackrock. the stronger the ele the higher the chance. its why garg picks became more popular.

Among the overland spawns: dull copper and shadow, both seem to have the same drop rate.

it's possible there the same. haven't really done many shadows,so can't say for sure. however have recently tried the higher ones (copper,verite). was getting more from them(particularly verite). several peep have told me they do much better the higher up they go, as well. of course this may only be for the ones you dig up and not the ones that spawn, have never bothered to test this though.

I had some fighting skills to train up so I hit the Shame dull coppers. I 120'd a few skills and came away with a nice cache of crystalline blackrock. If you go to Shame it's definitely worth marking a few runes and hopping about as the spawns are a little slow.

Shadow Elementals in Yomotsu Mines tend to spawn faster.

Ive been killing shame dulls for ages, no crystalline blackrock yet 
It's been like this since I came back to the game; and I was always amazed people didn't seem to bother with them as 10 blackrock has been selling for 500k on Europa... it's where I made my Singing Ball money from! However since I got it, and since a Valorite Elemental hit my miner and insta-broke his Rangers Cloak, I've not bothered... especially as the forthcoming event seems to be spawning (and using) Crystalline too.

You'd not lost it if you'd insured or blessed (with a CBD) it, as the Valorite and Verite elementals can only break things that aren't cursed, insured or blessed.
Ouch... well now I know at least!
