So he'd chosen option Two. That was all right. Honestly she should have expected as much. Merek, she was sure, thought he could hide behind his entourage and behind Minalan. His entourage, who like him, would be gone in another month as he always was out of boredom or some search for greener and more gold paying pastures. And Minalan who couldn't even be counted upon to stay with the woman he loved. How long did it take after finding out Mal was pregnant for him to turn tail as well? How many experiments had he let take him on adventures elsewhere. Hadn't Mal said that very thing? Apparently both Morality and longevity were issues Merek and Minalan had in common.

It wasn't all that unfamiliar of territory actually. Minalan was a substandard mage and man. He preferred slights of fancy to sound fact, something that had bit him in the ass many times while he and Mal were together. Consistency counted, and in this case both men were consistent in failing repeatedly.

She had once thought that maybe Merek would be an improvement on Va'lis, but he wasn't. Maybe that's why Minalan traveled in that same circle.. Both criminals, both looking to get what they could when they could as quietly as possible and then getting pissy when it blows up in their face. Merek had thought he could quietly pay a fine, a bribe really, and avoid public knowledge. While Minalan, and his paltry spells almost killed her husband while they held him in that gods forsaken circle. He'd done no research, sought no experts, just thrown him in and hoped for the best. Oh yes, that truly spoke of a man who knew what he was doing. She rolled her eyes outwardly. May the Gods help them all if Merek and Minalan were the Council of mages for Sosaria. Surely that meant that one of seven Hells had frozen over.

It was her move and oh did she intend to make it a good one.
