Considering returning..

I am thinking about coming back. I haven't played since they added Paladins/Necros. I have been looking all over the forums to try and find some guides for how game mechanics function but I've had no luck.

Some random questions I have:
-Do skills still raise slower the closer to the cap you are?
-Are there any general newbie guides/websites that are up to date?
-Recommended server?
-What 3rd party programs are legal and available for use?

1. No.
2. Difficult. I only know of http://haven.uosites.com/ and those are outdated, too. Still the basics do fit and all of the 2d client is still appropriate. (The mentioned kr client got replaced by the ec now.)
3. Depends on your playstyle and your connection. I would always do and recommend picking a server witht he lowest ping to yours.
4. For the 2D it is still UOAssist and a mapping tool. Not shure, which one does work atm or with which workaround. (Most of them didnt get actualized.) For the ec cleint you dont need any 3rd party programms. Especially not, if you are using Pincos UI.

Hi and welcome back. I just built a new player center so hopefully some of the info I found will help.
1. Are you building new characters? If so I would suggest doing the New Haven quests. They will give you an accelerated skill gain up to level 50. Also see if you can find scrolls of alacrity as they give will give you a skill boost based on time. The skills do seem to slow done the higher the skill, personally I don't know if they really do or if by that time I hate the skill .
2. While setting up the center, I used these two sites. The first is actually Uo.com-about the game section-player guide. It has fairly good information about how to begin. This info is for both clients. The other site I used is uoguide.com. The information is kept fairly current. The building skill guide is very helpful as are the profession guides here.
3. I agree with Silverbird about shards. You might want to try a test alt on the different shards. My shard,Lake Austin, has a small but growing population with several returning players. We are a quiet shard, which can make it hard to get hunts together.
4. Again Silverbird is correct. You can find on the forums a list of approved programs. I'll have to look to find where. I do know that uo assist is as are three mapping programs. Again I'll have to look up two of the programs. I use ultima mapper.
Also you can always ask questions the people on the forums are always willing to help.

Looked up where you can find information about uo auto map and uo cartographer. Check the stickies at the top of uhall. I found this list for approved programs. Some of them no longer work. Help.ea.com
