(Confused)Tasty Meat Pies!

I apologise in advance if there has already been a post or posts relating to the following (Perhaps you could direct me to those posts if that is the case):~

Tasty Meat Pies were once edible, were they not?

What and why was that changed? I mean if it they were a real rarity I can understand that it might be changed due to the possibilities of double clicking and the items disappearing down the stomach of a toon, but since this is not the case I just don't understand the reason for such a change?

Perhaps, akin the 25 original fruit cakes being regifted each Christmas, that the meatpies have become unedible due to age?

I actually have no idea.
