Coming back to UO

I've been searching for almost ten years to find a half decent MMORPG since I stopped playing UO. I've tried many, but feel now maybe I should have just stuck with this game.

I need to ask a few questions, though, before I start.

When I played, every server was completely packed. Every inch of the map was covered in houses (not too realistic). If you wanted to buy a house/guild hall/castle, it would cost you millions. Is it still like that?

What are the servers like? Are there some servers that are still packed and some that are moderately packed? Are all of them empty so that I should probably just play on the busiest one unless I want to play alone?

Basically, what server should I play on? I don't want to be completely alone but I don't want to be on a server that is completely packed like the old days.

I guess I could just try different servers and find out for myself but since I'm waiting for the patcher anyway I might as well try and get it right the first time ;).

There is plenty of housing space on all servers, I believe. Atlantic is probably the busiest and with all the new lands players are spread out a bit. The best thing to do is find a good guild so other players are only a guild chat or alliance chat away. If you visit Pacific, let me know and I'll help you get established here.

Thanks a lot. Maybe I will give Pacific a shot, since I don't think I want to play on 'the' busiest server. The other servers aren't too quiet, though, are they?

I play Sonoma and for me its just right. Enough people to have fun... but not too crowded. Plenty of room for housing... you can place your own 18x18 pretty easily. I know of several spots that could fit a house that size just waiting for some new or returning player to come along and build a home.

I should mention Siege Perilous. Lots of room for housing if you get away from the 'prime' spots.

Depending on how long you've been gone, it might be the closest shard to the old UO you remember. Now, that might be a bad thing, or a good thing, depending on your point of view.

Alright, so what I'm gathering and hoping is that there is a reasonable amount of players and space on all the shards?

Yes.

Although, on Siege, they gather in different places so it can appear empty if you check popular Trammel locations.

Edit: I should mention that Siege still has a lower population than most shards, it's just not as empty as most people believe that give it a quick run through.

I don't think you will find it as busy as back then, but still a decent amount of people in most shards to have fun with. If you want to look for where people gather, most people gather at the Luna bank, but in some few shards crowds still gather around Britain bank. I play pacific and I know where some 18 X 18 houses can fit, I figure if pacific has some space for some 18x18s, I'm sure most shards do too. There is plenty of room all over the map to place small houses as well.

If not, houses are really cheap, UO already had their own housing crisis back then.

The game is now what it really has always been; what you make of it. The largest population servers are still Atlantic, Catskills and Great Lakes (I think). On Sonoma, it can be slow, but if you look for guilds and people to game with, you will find them.

Housing is really not an issue now unless you want a house in the new lands or the highest populated city areas (Luna, Britain).

The game itself is dated, but there is still nothing like it around.

I say reactivate, read some shard forums here and give it a try.
