Well, I quit UO after the AoS expansion and haven't looked back since. I was a resident of the Great Lakes shard from 98-2000 before I moved off to Sonoma for a year before coming back to Great Lakes. I am a supporter of a classic shard, but have decided that I need to give UO as it is a real chance, so as soon as my download gets done, (probably gonna take 6 years with this crappy connection I have here) I will be starting my trial. I will be looking at the game with fresh eyes this time.

Anyways with all that said, what is a good starting point for a fresh player? Whats the easiest way to get my character outfitted so I can go out and bash bunnies and all that good stuff. Where is a good guide on what exactly all the item properties do etc...

Thanks for your time and patience.

Welcome back.

For item properties, try here at Stratics and UOGuide.com. There's also UO.com's Playguide.

All 3 have charts with the "quick descriptions" of the item properties. Of course, I don't actually have the link to either chart, because that'd be too easy.

This being UO, not everyone knows everything, not even the manufacturers, so there's always the possibility of one of, or all 3 of, these sites getting something wrong.

But, like I said, this is UO, so you should be used to that by now, even though you'd quit for a number of years.

Places to start....Are you starting new characters? If so, stick to New Haven for awhile (it's the quaint little town you'll start in). There's new player quests that'll help you (double-click on NPCs labeled "Quest Giver"). Also, up to about 50, while you are on the new player quests you'll gain skill amazingly fast in the ruins of "Old Haven," to the east of New Haven.

Either way, you can still gain skill quickly and have a good time doing it in the Anti-Virtue Dungeons, or Dungeons of Sin, which basically is RP speak for the oldest dungeons in the game (Covetous, Despise, etc.).

And you have a small chance of getting one of a set of mediocre, but viable, items called Virtue Artifacts from hunting there.

Rune libraries will be very important. There's a good one called the Nameless Rune Library, south of the Yew Moongate, and west of a regular library called The Library of Sosaria. You can now cast the Recall spell from a runebook with 100% success if you have enough mana and if the Runebook is charged with Recall scrolls.

There's a "global chat" system now, click the chat button in the menu bar over your game screen (this is assuming you have the "Classic Client" as opposed to the new "Enhanced Client"), and select your channel. Strike the comma key on your keyboard to talk. Questions you ask there will probably be answered, but you'll have to deal with PvP smack talk too.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions you have. Here, elsewhere in Stratics, in global chat, wherever.

Good luck, welcome back.
