Combat Poisoning Essay

Hi everybody,
i have been reading and researching info about poisoning, with nox mages and warriors with poisoned weapons, i have found that poisonous strike will deliver 5 th level poison if you have 60+ poison and deadly poisoned weapon!! :loser: like that: (from stratics itself)

Infectious Strike - This special move represents a significant change to the use of poisons in Age of Shadows. Now, only certain weapon types those that have Infectious Strike as an available special move will be able to be poisoned. Targets will no longer be poisoned at random when hit by poisoned weapons. Instead, the wielder must use this ability to deliver the venom. While no skill in Poisoning is absolutely required to use this ability, being knowledgeable in the application and use of toxins will allow a character to use Infectious Strike at reduced mana cost and to inflict more deadly poison on his victim. With this change, weapons will no longer be corroded by poison. Level 5 poison will be possible when using this special move. Poisoning skill is not required, but without it you will only be able to inflict level 1 poisons on your victim.
The Poisoning skill will give a (Poisoning Skill)% chance to increase the level of poison delivered by 1. The blade must have poison applied to it. The power of the poison depends on the type of poison used and your poisoning skill.
With Poisoning skill 0.0 - 19.9 you can inflict Level 1 (with a chance of level 0)
With Poisoning skill 20.0 - 39.9 you can inflict level 2 (with a chance of level 3)
With Poisoning skill 40.0 - 59.9 you can inflict level 3 (with a chance of level 4)
With Poisoning skill 60.0 - 100.0 you can inflict level 4 (with a chance of level 5)

Also i have read that nox mages can inflict deadly poison if your magery and your poisoning skill sum is equal to 200 points, and he always inflicts deadly (4th level) with Poison field spells

Is this correct? Is it possible that poisoning is so powerfull?

really a warrior with only 60 p. will be so deadly?
(for pvm and pvp i think)

I think the key words are "you can" and "with a chance of". Not sure what the odds are of getting level 5 with just 60 poisoning and 120 weapons skill, or if you will hit level 4 all the time with just 60. I run around with around 83 and 120 and it hits level 5 fairly often, but the problem is that the majority of the time they instantly cast greater cure, cleanse by fire, or chug a pot, but man its nice when you hit someone with level 5 and they don't have chiv or magery and someone stole their pots and bandies.

Yes poisoning can be a powerful tool.

The numbers are wrong however, you need 80 poisoning to inflict DP with melee.

Your mage numbers are right but, the strength of the spell is based on your distance from the target the same way as harm is. also with 200 points (120mage 80 poisoning) you only have a 10%chance of dp with the poison spell add in resist spells and it is hard to DP someone with the poison spell.

Having said that the DP fields are extremely usefull and will be resisted alot less than all other levels of poison.

Unfortunatly many pvpers run with a insta cure macro/script so you need to make them chug all there pots (can be over 40!!!)and it seems monsters are exempt from needing to cast mass cure to negate the effects.

Mmmm, well i pvm most of times, and already had an gm alchemist with 81 in poisoning, recently i received a soulstone so now i am trying different combinations of poisonous fighters/casters ;-)

I have a little extrange t-hunter, with mag, eval, med, inscription and that 81 in poisoning (plus carto+lock), thinking about boost magery and eval with jewelry or equipment to reach the 100 poisoning,
(he's not for pvp at first, he's a t-h, not sure the future )

evaluate + inscription + poisoning must be fatal , isn't it?
(+ aaaaall in Spell D.I + scrapper's + faster castin....)
dammly, u have to cast protection on yourself to cast near 2 tiles, no?

meanwhile i will use the stone to try that 81 p. on my dexer-fencer warrior, but i suppose is a pity the karma loss on your chivalry skill, ¿?, at low levels chiv i mean... or is a very light impact on your karma?

Its not a huge impact in all fairness you will probably find you will recieve more karma back than you lose through poisoning, especially as you will come up against certain monsters which poisoning just isnt a viable option.

On the magery side you can pre-cast poison from a distance, run close and cast, so long as when you actually cast the spell(and it takes hold) you are close to target you will get the desired effect.

Nox mages can be very effective vs some peerless and in Doom. Lady Mel for one is vulnerable to poison fields.
