City Banner deeds question

Hi I have been turning in completed smith deeds to the blacksmiths to build up status in cities.

I thoght I read somewhere on stratics that you can donate gold along with other items to speed up the procees.
If somebody could help me out here with either a link or some helpfull information, I would really appreciate it. Trying to get all city banners. :)
