Aye Kelmo,

I'm all for fixing as much as possible as fast as possible. And for workarounds until then.

But Leaderless Guilds, Argh!!!

Folks work so hard to build a Guild (and often the Guild Leader is not the main Recruiter) only to see it decline due to either thotless Leadership, or death, which obviously is tragic all the way round.

I shall await ChrissayEAMythic's next response with great Hope.

Hello all,
I have been around since 99, I have seen and done many things in UO, mainly on Baja.
I personally have sat with Magdalena awaiting a response from GM pages. I was there when they actually threaten to tag her account with harrassment if she paged again. Since then I myself have sent pages for her in fear of her account being banned.

I then spoke to Mesanna who told us that a GM can fix this issue. Sadly I know that this is true because I have first hand seen them transfer guild leadership to another person. Granted this was years ago back when GMs actually were allowed to do stuff, allowed to be seen.
But what do we get? they read our pages and send us "we are sorry we cannot help you with that, report it as a bug" - We did this 7 months ago and not a single response.
Since UO has limited what GMs can or cannot do, barely anything gets resolved.
These "experts" you talk about, half the time I don't even think they have ever played UO because I can answer questions better than they can AND I took a 4-5 year leave of UO.
I had an issue where my char wouldnt join factions. said i was in one already, i wasnt because every char was in a guild that was NOT a faction guild. What did the GM say? "leave all the guilds, that should work" guess what? it didnt. I am no longer allowed to join the guilds I left. I kept asking throughout the whole time if he could just add me and he said he couldnt. Guess what he did after over 2 hours of giving me excuses and "solutions" to my problem....HE ADDED ME TO FACTIONS.

Sorry to say it but half the time the GMs dont even read pages. They just send out auto responses. I have paged and they gave me an auto response that wasnt even regarding my issue at all. And this has happened more than once.

As for Magdalena's guild, I personally have contacted the old GM of her guild and her account is NOT active, so...why does Magdalena's vote NOT count when she is 100% of the vote?

Which seems to have arrived in the latest FoF....
I'm glad the Devs finally did something even after giving a canned response. But boy, I think I would feel really embarrassed after all the problems it's caused and the refusals to help.

From the Five on Friday:

The guild system does not appear to be working properly. The guild page on the official site seems way out-of-date. Veteran guilds trying to change leaders report problems with the vote count system. What's the real story?

We recently discovered a curious little error in the Guild system. Way back when Guild Stones were converted to the modern system, a voting filter was included that only tallies votes from active guild members. That filter was disabled during the conversion, because the member activity data was new, and the lack of activity data on newly converted guilds would wreak havoc. The filter was supposed to be enabled in the subsequent publish, but somehow that got lost in the shuffle.

As a result, in order to elect a guild member, 2/3rd of the entire guild roster who have enough rank to vote must vote for a new Guildmaster. So, for any guild where 1/3 of the membership is inactive, it becomes impossible to successfully vote. If the guild has no active members who can kick inactive members, then obviously there is a whole boatload of fail happening.

We are currently checking to make sure that enabling that filter will have the intended effect of only requiring 2/3 of active guild members to elect a new Guildmaster, and won’t have any unintended side-effects. Assuming no additional issues arise, we will be able to enable that filter in a near future publish. At that time, voting in a new Guildmaster will require only a plurality of votes from active guildmembers who have sufficient rank to vote.

It wasn't that they were refusing to help, but that they were saying that is wasn't broke.:wall: Lots of red faced Devs :blushing:, LOL.

And they wondered why people kept :bdh: on this one.

Sometimes its easier to get a new car recalled for a malfunction than it is to get bugs fixed in UO.

People PMed GMs, people called customer support, people asked the devs, and they all said there was no problem and they couldn't help. When you have so many people who have a problem and have multiple people reporting this bug, I think they should seriously look at the script first. But no one did anything, and so they got even more reports. I mean, really. If several people have an issue, wouldn't you immediately look at it even though you think it's not broken?
