Choosing a shard

Hi, all! I'm not exactly a new player (I was there on day one of the original UO release, heh), but it's been a lot of years since I played, and I'm still learning all the new ropes. Thing is, my established characters are on a shard which has lost much of its membership since AoS, and I'd really like to start a couple of new characters on a more populated shard. Partly because I like to see more players running around, but mostly because I keep thinking it'll be easier to get back in touch with the game by starting over and leveling up from scratch. Even after a couple of months of being back, I still feel out of my depth where current combat techniques and skills are concerned.

So there's the question: which shard would you recommend?

Atlantic is the most populated. I have chars on both ATL and Napa. ATL for the population and Napa for the community.

Come play on LS. We have a good community, and some active PvP as well.

Well, if you don't want to start absolutely from scratch, you *can* transfer established characters from one shard to another these days. You can either buy tokens from other players ingame ( several million usually ) or purchase direct from EA ( I forget what the price is, I've never done it ) But I agree - if you have been away a while, starting a few chars from scratch might be a good way to learn. All new characters whether young or not start off in Haven these days and there are a lot of NPC quests to help starting professions and get some nice little starter items.

As for shards - well yes, Atl is very populated still. With all the pros and cons that implies. Even though my main characters and houses and at least part of my heart are there still, I find I am happiest on Drachenfels these days. Which has a smaller population and a very diverse mix of nations but one hell of a community, even though it seems to be quiet most of the time. Siege, with its Fel based ruleset, also has a very welcoming and close community, although once again I am finding I don't have the heart to actively play there these days. But that's just me
