Hey all,

RJO of OGD/OSS here - I doubt anyone will remember me, but I'm an old long time active member of the shard who hasn't played actively in years now.

I've really been yearning some sandbox fun lately and I wanted to know how GL is doing as I prepare for a return. I hear the shard is still one of the better destinations in terms of population but how is the community doing? Do we still have a thriving player and event community like we once did?

How is the housing situation? Will I be able to place a decent sized plot? Do people still sell decent spots in WBB or Luna? Speaking of the old haunts, where is the busy hub these days?

Any thoughts on the shard are greatly appreciated, I'm looking to get myself hyped up for a return!

The center of commerce is either Luna Bank or in the new Global Chat system.

The cities are under invasion so watch your step.

Great Lakes is both friendly and competitive. (Save for the people who have trouble selling things at Atlantic prices and say we're "ignorant.") There are some player events, and we have the two best Event Moderators (Event Moderators are the rough-equivalent of Seers; they work for EA kinda/sorta, they run their own events, and they run certain official EA events to give them a personal touch).

Yep, the RP OSS - Order of the Silver Serpent. I'm not a huge RPer myself but I had friends in the guild (from OGD) and got a kick out of it.

Invasion eh? How does that work? Is it something we can repel?

I'm glad to hear the shard is still alive and kicking.

What is the guild scene like? I think I'd be looking for an active/populace guild who did PVM and maybe did some lite RPing or events. Who fits that bill these days?

Short version of the invasion currently (look at my "posts started" under my Stratics profile and you'll see an FAQ on the scenario which is now out of date but still somewhat useful) is that you say "news" to a town cryer, find out if someplace is invaded. If noplace is invaded the cryer will cycle through a list of results in previously-invaded cities. (GL has won every round of the invasion.) Then you go into the city and kill the red dragon armored NPCs, hell founds, and creepy skeletal demon guard thingies. Be sure to loot them.

This evil is clever, though, they won't attack you unless you have fought them previously. So when you walk in and aren't necessarily immediately attacked, don't think they aren't evil; they are just smart and want your loyalty.

If you want to work on behalf of evil, find the Ophidian, Meer, and Human soldiers outside the invaded cities (a containment force) and kill them. (Yes, the Ophidians, at leaast some of them, are on our side in this one.)

Each round of the invasion can be repelled; at EM events we're working on a more-permanent solution.

The RP community is still around. There's a least 2 big, neat, and nice PvM-oriented guilds around (Y and GV) and probably more I am not thinking of at the moment.

They sided with Casca (a dictator backed by the Shadowlords) during the last arc. They abducted the Chancellor of the High Council and had to be spanked.

Most of their buildings were destroyed or repurposed by the Britannian Housing Authority a while back.


The guild RKR (Royal Knights of Redemption) is now RKV (Royal Knights of Virtue), if you remember them.


There isn't a 'daily' RP hangout anymore, but everyone is allied through the guild system so communication is easy.

OSS evil? Wow!

Glad to hear RKR is still around (I've actually been in RKR most times I've returned to the game over the past little while - that is to say like 4 years ago).

The addition of global chat must be great for the community. GLRPC still being around makes me happy as well.

OSS, or known as Kul Tiras Marines on WoW, is still around on/off, the website they have is actually called the innercircle it has weird characters, basil is still around and Nero on and off, Edguardo, Thaddeus, etc;.

First ive seen a member of OGD in years, its been a couple sense I last saw Arash or Enforcer.

As was said RKR/RKV are still around, I had the Wolven Knights, and turned it into Legion of the Undead, which I still have to this day, own a few houses around yew moongate, player run buildings/services.

Even around our little town area at the moongate you can find decent sized plots, just wandering around in other areas ive found a few 18x18 before.
