(Question) Changing Characters Names (Help Needed)

For Ten or so years Ive been known as Gareth in game. I've already gone through the hell of being confused with Golrath (that wasn't fun) and now being accused an/or mistaken of being Gorath.

Nothing against Gorath, I'm just tired of people thinking I'm him and he is me then dumping a bunch of [censor] talk on me in Global and Icq. I don't want people to hate or dislike me because they cant see the difference between A, O and E, A hate or dislike me for something I've actually done at least

Sure I could ignore it and keep correcting people 500x but I already have enough things working against me and dont need another one. So... I am planning to change all of my characters named Gareth to "Gareth something" so players dont confuse me with the PvPer Gorath.


Would it be best to
Add an Initial to the end of my name like Gareth K.?
My characters RP last name Gareth Lightenburg?
All caps seeing as I get yelled at all the time anyhow GARETH?
Different suggestion?

I'm asking all of you so I don't end up spending $50 at the Origin Store to change all my characters named Gareth and find people still getting confused with the PvPer Gorath. I also dont want to change my name so much that returning players who know me from the past dont recognize my name.

Why not do something like Oni does? She has 'oni' in every character's name, but the character's template included or used somehow. Her necro is Dark Oni, as an example.
Your character example names could be like Ranger Gareth, Sea Gareth, etc.

You could add one or part of the player run city names you are part of, as Gareth's *last name or surname* if ya wanted to, that might work. OR wait it all out.

It is not your fault folks confuse names afterall. Yet they do that.

Ages upon ages ago there was a *PK* and he had named that chr. ZEN.

Now there was no Queen Zen even part of his character's name, yet for some time there folks thought that was my murdering alt or was the same me and so on so forth screamin at me, for murdering them !

I rode it out, figured if folks also can not tell a BLUE hued chr. from a RED hued chr. twas them that needed help or need to change not me.

And ifn I was gonna attack anyone in the UO world, it be on a chr. I have with a name, no one can pronounce yet, to this day. I send him to do my *dirty work* !! Surely I would not name any murderer or thief I had, ZEN, in any fashion of name.

So that is ye other option WAIT IT OUT, ye are the ORIGINAL, rest are close or copy cats or similar in spellings, by choice or accidental similaritys when they made a chr., but they are NOT YOU, nor your Gareth. ONLY YOU ARE YOU and well the other issue is why should the ORIGINAL change his or her name annoying though it may be, just cuz of some one else's chr. being *close* in spellin' ... to your character's name !!

That is like Ford or GM or Hostess changin their name cuz some new corporation made a car from a company named Fand or GS or hostess twinkies being called twinkles...they not the same !! PERIOD and ifn folks can't spell or read the hue colors or guild tags; well that is more THEIR problem than yours yes even if they yellin at you accusing you of doing what the other similar name has done !!

But yeh up to you if too annoying, just toss or add one of ye player run townships names as Gareth's *last name* or something ...but no guarentee that will help YOUR Gareth anyhows !!

Just sayin' IF you or any of us are the original KLEENEX brand and someone makes a newer tissue, called KLENIX, it still not the ORIGINAL real deal now is it ! ?

Then there is the other issue, will folks that knew you as Gareth for yrs. accept the change or not ?

I sight an example from rl where locally our mayor had what he thought was some brainy idea to rename a local street here to *Main Street* ! None of us got to vote on it no he just willy nilly changed a local street name to Main Street. To this day 10 yrs. later the local folks *north* of that street and *south* of that street, STILL call it, STATE LINE ROAD !!

It was originally called Stateline Road for a REASON...if ya on the north side of that street behind all the stores and fast food places, ya in Tennessee and Memphis, if ya on the south side of that street with all the stores and fast food places, ya in Mississippi, and Southaven Ms.
10 yrs later no one calls that street Main Street, even though the mayor, relabeled it and put up pricey costly new street signs, it remains called... [by all the local folks], here in 2 states ... STATE LINE ROAD !

No one accepted that name change, at all ! Only idiot calling that street Main St. remained, our Mayor ! LOL

The map SAYS it is the LINE drawn in the concrete, dividing 2 USA states' borders. Hense originally that street's name, going clear back to dirt roads farmlands only & the civil war era, and that one street was named way back then ... Stateline Road !

Sooooooo really think it over sir !! Gareth is Gareth !!

I can completely see your frustration, I had the same problem when I used to play on Lake Austin with one of my characters. To be honest, though, I do not think that adding a last name, initial or capitals would be of much help. Many people aren't going to pay enough attention to the difference and still think they are seeing who they think they see. (If you know what I mean) I wish I had a solution for you. For my issue, people finally realized that I was not who they thought I was, but it took quite awhile and it was really annoying until they figured it out. I still had an occasional misunderstanding, but it wasn't often.

I hope you can come to some solution that will work for you without changing who you are (if you know what I mean by that, if not, just ICQ me lol)

If someone starts in on you thinking you are someone else I would just respond with *waves hand in front of you* This is not the gorath/golrath that you are looking for.

I wouldn't change it. I would remain who you are. I've had a few Sean Silverfoot's running around, my guild tag is how you know it's really me.

Folks are going to do and say what they want. ........ them

I wouldn't change my name because of that. I been there and accused of an issue before that wasn't me but another person with a simlar but yet different name.

I just road it out and usually players catch on. Even slightly changing it may still have those issues so save yourself the money and aggrovation and just keep things the same.

I have been listening to suggestions and after speaking with Queen Zen and hearing about Kelmo, I could name myself KDisUULe Gareth IORNVQ30PFM And it still wouldn't matter. I'll ride it out like I did Golrath and Gorath has been very kind to correct people.

Going to keep myself hidden in Tokuno like I always do and go to my 5x a week Queen Zen vendor therapy sessions. If that doesnt work ill use one of the name change suggestions above.
