PaxLair 25th Anniversary Speech

Welcome everyone to PaxLair's 25th Anniversary!
I am Governor Winfield, one of the original Founders of PaxLair.
Let's talk about the past, present, and future for a moment.
No Christmas Story Ghosts will appear I promise you. But that would be cool!

Long ago, some brilliant people made a realm called Ultima Online.
I must admit, if they had not created UO ... PaxLair would not exist.
25 years ago on January 19, 1998,
"The Band" guild placed some houses in this meadow.
It became a hotbed of activity as people moved in,
fought each other, and held events.
Blues and Reds even came here peacefully to get their weapons repaired
and safeguarded their gold in our player-run bank! People trusted us!
This meadow became a diverse, usually peaceful melting pot of many adventurers.
Therefore, we called this place PaxLair, which means "Peace Place".
Let us clap for our founders, veterans, and our long and continuing history.

In more recent years and to this present day,
absolutely brilliant people continue to enhance UO.
They provide us with a fresh and wonderful place to live and enjoy.
Let's wholeheartedly thank the EMs, GMs, and Devs! *claps*
Over the past 2 and one-half decades, PaxLair changed from a simple player-town
to a player-statehood of several towns,
to a large alliance of many guilds and returning players.
We enjoy being part of the larger community here on Chesapeake...
Where Britannia is full of stories and adventures.
Where people are friendly and help each other.
Where people have a place to call home whether they are new or newly returned.
And where PaxLair continues on Chesapeake to serve our fellow adventurers.
Let's clap for our Chesapeake community!

The future for PaxLair in Britannia is as bright as always.
With continued commitment by the brilliant EMs, GMs, and Devs, we are blessed.
With alliance members helping each other, we are active.
With elected Governors of some Britannian towns, we are involved.
With open arms for new and returning players, we are humbled.
With leaders such as NANOC and Phoenix, we have vision.
With all of you here now and in the future, we are PaxLair!

NANOC and Phoenix and others have put together many fun things to do
... which can cause death and dismemberment in some dungeons I imagine.
I hope everyone has fun, celebrates our anniversary,
and looks forward to another 25 years of PaxLair!
