Just out of curiosity I would like to know how many people would shut down accounts or quit UO altogether if they no longer offered the CC and the only other option was the current EC

if you shut down cc you stop scripting as well so loads will threaten to leave because there are no scripting programs for ec . but yes shut it down put what little resources ea have into one client .
on a side note they will close this down
Not a problem here, I'd just adapt to the new client. I've tried using it and I know I could get used to it in time. I used to use the 3D client exclusively before it was killed off.

I wouldnt be playing as much thats for sure. And I mostly quit altogether knowing the CC client is gone and EC with all it's slowness I wouldnt be temped to come back, most likely. I like EC, but it is sloww and some what laggy on my machine. I am a die hard CC guy myself, I like it if they just gave all the bing-bling And short cuts to CC.

If it was cost effective the CC would already be shut down..it's not..so it isn't fan boy elsewhere the EC isn't good..way too many glitches, and if you think focusing on one would fix that..you're insane have you not seen how the devs have been running this game for the last 10 years
I know it's the year 2013, but I'm using a little netbook and I simply can't play the enhanced client. If I had a faster computer I'm sure I'd be more inclined to use the EC, but I think for many people, they use the CC out of necessity. Or I could be wrong.
Someone tell me why we're going down this road yet again?

85% of the people who play the game, don't read stratics or any websights that deal with ultima expect uo.com. When your in the game and talk to these people, they enjoy how and what they do with thier classic client. Without the CC, the game will lose it's money and won't survive. Besides Ec is still in beta....

What the devs do with the CC has no bearing on my continuation in UO since I've been out of the CC almost entirely for several years now. What s playing more into the "stay or leave UO" decision for me is based on two things: 1. How Shroud of the Avatar turns out and 2. How improvement to UO and the EC turns out in the same timeframe.
If SotA releases and has as much depth (or potential depth since it IS at the beginning of that game and won't have 15 years' worth of additions made to it yet) as UO and if the High Res EC update as well as significant client issues that have been present since it was developed are still mired and not addressed as they are currently, then I'll be making the change over to SotA completely.
If SotA ends up being a steaming pile of unplayable garbage and UO shows significant improvements to the EC, I'll stay with UO.
There are fun little mental and opinion exercises on the direction the game should have gone, but they're just that... exercises in thought. RIght now it's all coming down to what ends up being the better product for my time... UO or SotA, not the existence or lack thereof in regards to the CC.

The CC (crap client) is slowly killing Ultima Online. Why support a client ( crap client which is almost 2o friggin' years old) that can't bring in new customers. Time has proven this and this is why UO is in the sorry shape it's in right now.
It's like supporting Windows 95 when you have Windows 7. UO has to be able to attract new players to remain solvent.

I can understand not pulling the plug on the Crap Client and leaving it so people can still connect to UO with it (so as not to lose jurassic subscribers). However, when adding any new content at all resources should be focused on the client which has the potential to bring in new subscribers. Not that the EC client can do that right now in the current shape it's in and that's not going to change anytime, therefore, these conversations are all academic.
Due to past decisions by the Devs UO is like the Titanic that has already hit the iceberg (Crap Client) and with the current situation at EA i.e. cutbacks and pulling of resources from UO... UO can't do anything but sink. It could have been avoided if the Captain (Mesanna or Crowner) had decided to make a turn i.e with KR or a client with high resolution instead of low resolution.

If they ditch the CC, I will definitely close my second account, and if the only option left for me is the EC, I will most likely end up closing both accounts.
Of course, if they introduce a brand new client that is clearly superior to both the CC and EC (and ditch both clients) I'll give the new one a try, assuming my old computer can handle it.

Petra I ask you to shut this down.............. before too many get angry or worried that the CC is at risk.
I have had it with the EC people and the threats and pushes for CC to go away cause they feel the Dev would put more energy that way to the EC.
Mesanna and the Dev that is have stated the CC is not going anywhere and they will continue supporting the EC.
