Cavern of the Discarded for a Spellcaster ??

The appropriate Slayer for the rats in the cavern of the discarded would be "vermin".

Unfortunately, and I do not know the reasons, I have yet to see any spellbook or Scrapper's that is a vermin slayer.... And the vermin talisman does not work for spells, unfortunately.

So the question is, is there any slayer that would boost spells for a spellcaster in the Cavern of the Discarded ? Or is it only Spell Damage Increase the one currently available as help with that particular spawn ?

Thanks.

Vermin slayer is not one that existed before the advent of talismans. It has never existed on weapons or spellbooks. I was not aware that talismans did not work for mages. I had assumed that, like spellbooks, they would work for direct damage spells only.

Try a Repond Slayer... That's what I always used when I was down there. Worked well for me. Works against ratmen.

They nerfed it. Used to work for direct damage mage spells but then they said it was a bug, and made it dexxer only.

Thanks, I thought Repond was mostly against humanoids like ettins, trolls and the like.

After all, the Barracoon spawn it is the vermin slayer that is said to work with.....

I will give a repond spellbook a try though.

Thanks.

P.S. I could use some help to deal with the annoying side spawn at the Discarded.

I hate the plague rats, the scorpions and the wolves......
They are flat out annoying as they only carry gold as loot and they keep on spawning, endlessly.....

Is there a way to get them out of the way so as to be able to focus on the rats that carry the resources ?

Kal Vas Xen Popps?

If you meant Rising Colossus I think it is Kal Vas Xen Corp Ylem.

It sure is a nice spell for a spellcaster to use but I was more looking to boost direct hit spells.

Thanks for the suggestion.

With area effect spells, the side spawn drops quickly.
Don't discount the wolves, they carry reflective eyes.

Using a warrior is so much better, it's silly to even consider another template.

Yes, but that side spawn (plague rats, scorpions and wolves) re-spawn right away, endlessly...
Personally, I see it pointless to even try kill them when more spawn right away and, aside from wolves, they have nothing worthy as loot on them.

I am more trying to find something for them to do (like another target to hook up on...) while I can deal with the spawn that matters.

True, go figure why the wolves got something but not the plague rats nor the scoprions...

I can see that, I was just trying to see if I could find a different set up that even if not as efficient as a warrior, it would still be a good compromise.

Poops its like a champ spawn, you HAVE to kill the rats/scorpions/wolfs for the next level of the spawn to happen.

I.E. the next level that worth killing wont spawn unless you kill enough of the first spawn.

And if you using a bridge as a fallback point. Then your dealing with two spawn champ areas.

Not to my experience.

I have found that the ones that need to be all killed are the Champ and the next 2 tiers down, not the lowest level spawn (plague, scorpions and wolves...).

Repond Spell Book, couple EV's and an area effect spell works wonder.
A good mage can do them with little problem.

For the wolf and henchmen spawn, I usually throw poison fields all around me then ev or rc if you have mystic Mage. When poisoned they just run around and you usually don't get hit that often. The other two spawns I don't use poison fields. Usually it's ev and invis for the archers until only a couple are left and for the other spawn, I usually bring a few at a time up the little path.

Good to know - I just got my first three skills to legendary skills (magery, resist and eval - after many years of playing :p) and have never been there. I may go take a look sometime soon.

Spawn control...

most of the things down there are cookie freaks. Place a plate of cookies Way far off somewhere, then slowly walk all around a bit saying "I got Cookies!" They Will Follow.
Be nice and stay disarmed to be believable to them.
Then simply show them where the plate of cookies are - given a chance, they'll sit and munch, but will get mean as heck if you watch them eat, so you have to run off Fast at that point. Run back to your spawn and finish having Fun
Works for me - did it today for the bottom rat spawn

Haha freakin UO creepers.
I don't blame them, her avatar is almost as hot as mine is! Bwahahahaha. Also, personal comments should be sent in a PM, guys, sheesh. Thread derailment. Goshhhh.

And also, I think you guys are doing Adora a disservice. I wasn't going to say it at first, but now I have to say it.

No! Stop! Wait! Seriously, the rats were made for a sampire or tamer (or both) to kill ;P. I prefer a sampire, in fact, I use a sampire and two bouras. It's ownage by furrage. A mage is literally a waste of time imo. Sure, try it out on a mage, but the rats have so much HP. It's like those dumb npc generals during that Factions invasion.

Personally I prefer my 4/6 chiv swordsman there. I just get a bunch of rats on me and whirlwind attack with the soulseeker. I would wear a vermin slayer tailsman. I could heal and cure anytime with the fast 4/6 casting plus I use pots. I used mostly strength and agility pots. Plus spammed concecrate wep. Never ran out of mana and health and I was fine. Took a little while to kill the champ but only ever died once to him when I lost connection.

I generally get hit on as much as her (especially by Lynk), so I try to keep my posts to a minimum on Stratics now. :/

You're right - I did go down there earlier today and it took forever to kill the renowneds with my mage. I don't have a high level sampire, but looks like I may be spending some time working on that one.

Like others in the thread have noted, it's all about a dexxer's ability to whirlwind. Of course, bushido skill makes whirlwind damage/mana usage more effective--even before vampiric embrace.

My fencer uses kamas w/ something like 40 di, 40 hit lower defense, 40 hit area, 40 hit mana leech, and 40 hit stam leech. The hit area is really nice. I used to use a slayer but whirlwind spam on the rats w/ hit area drops the entire group so fast you don't even need a slayer. Then I use a leafblade repond slayer for the final rat boss of the mini-spawn.

Use Poison field on the sword rats and the archer rats, the mage rats blow it off. I use a Stealth Mystic-Mage-SW - cast RC then loot the bodies. I'm usually in Stone Form so any poison attack by rats or scorpions or mage rats are Resisted. Faster with a Dexxor or archer, but I have more fun with my stealth mystic-mage. An RC takes out all first wave ratmen, and 1-2 second wave ratmen. The Boss typically takes 8-10 RC's. I generally stealth about and "beachcomb" for Discarded drops during this time. And as with most critters, WoD socks a punch at the end:)

Don't bother looting the lesser swarm - rats, scorps, wolves. Some wolves give reflective eye that is used to Imbue RPD - but once you have a small stash of them, they pretty worthless. The Cavern ratmen give 90% of the major Imbuing ingredients and sole source for the Essence used to Balance bows.

If you have problems, lure a group away just like the Pied Piper:) You can't lure the Boss too far away frm where he spawns, for he will rubberband back there.
