Might as well turn this into a useful topic. To get carpets you visit the tailor shop in Ter Mur and get the quest. Then go sheer sheep to get the wool (plenty in Yew). Then you need to deliver a letter to The Spinning Wheel in Vesper. Be careful, there are two tailor shops with the same name. You want the one to the south in the city. Then you deliver a letter back. Ta-da, you can buy carpets.
They range in cost from 250-670 gold. The developers said there are 61 different pieces.
To place carpet you double-click them on the floor of your home. They don't count as a lockdown in your house.

I did the first part with the wool. Now it is asking me to deliver a letter of introduction to the Spinning Wheel in Vesper. But it doesn't say to who and there is no special quest NPC here. None of the tailor NPCs do anything or let me drop the letter on them.
