CARAVAN ANNOUNCEMENT,

Governor Tanda Knighthawke of Minoc will be hosting a caravan from Minoc to the Keep of Bordermarch on Dragon Isle. This is the Governor's gift to Sentri, the commander of the King's forces at Bordermarch. Sentri is a native of Minoc who is far from home.

This caravan will progress over 2 nights, Monday July 21 and Wednesday July 23. Gather on the first night at 8pm Central/9pm Eastern at the Minoc Bank and, on the second night, at 8pm Central/9pm Eastern in a location to be determined. Please show up on-time both nights, as the caravan will be setting out at most 15 minutes afterwards, and we will need time to arrange everything properly.

The Governor will be paying for guards: 100,000 gold for participation on both nights, payable at the end of the expedition on Wednesday, in Bordermarch. You will need to be be issued a temporary Britannian Armed Forces badge.

Those who wish to merely accompany the caravan, but not be hired as guards, also are welcome. We'll be glad to have you take control of some of the pack animals and shield them from potential attack!

(CARAVAN ANNOUNCEMENT, OOC

This will be a 2-night, PvP-focused event.

The 100k fee will be paid to those who are willing to be guilded temporarily (once Monday night, once again on Wednesday night) to a guild that will be warred to the “bad guy guilds,” and are willing to PvP according to specific rules of engagement (see below, either in this post or a reply to it).

Those who wish to just accompany the caravan and watch, but not PvP (and also not be paid!), also are very welcome and indeed it could be useful to have some caravan animals that aren't subject to attack by oranges!

Most of the trip will consist of slowly walking and tending to pack animals that are part of the caravan, punctuated by attacks.

Payment is not contingent upon success but, rather, upon full participation and compliance with the rules.

The important part of this event will be the success of the caravan – not the outcome of any particular fight, but ensuring that at least some of the goods make it through to Bordermarch.)

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Blues (those participating but not fighting) will be allowed to heal the good guys, but not bad guys. (We'll try and make it obvious which is which.) Blues also will be allowed to heal and guide pack animals that are being damaged.

When confronted with oranges, do not automatically attack them. Rather wait until they attack or wait for specific word. (We'll make it as obvious as possible when it's time to attack.)

A death means that you are unconscious, and thus out of the fighting, for the duration of that engagement. Once that engagement is over you'll be rezzed. If you are rezzed before the engagement is over, stay on foot and stay out of the way until the engagement is over. We'll try to make it as obvious as possible.

No looting. No rez-killing. (We're aware that accidental rez-killing may occur in the frenzy of combat so please also no freaking out.) No smack talking.

Mount killing IS allowed.

Tamers may use pets that require 2 control slots or less (up to 3 1-slot pets or, 1 2-slot pet).

Don't stray too far from the caravan (even if you're chasing down the enemy) and please come back to it when ordered, in-character or out-of-character. Remember that the important part of this event will be the caravan, not who wins any particular engagement, and not chasing down the bad guys. Getting the caravan through will be the important thing.

Due to various circumstances we decided to plow through this in one night instead of spreading it out.

It worked out well. Several people showed up to help, and though continually and effectively harassed by raiders, the good guys managed to get a good bit of the goods through. (One of our hired guards left before he got his payment! You know who you are, remind me to get it to you.)

The RP community may seek to hold another event on Wednesday in its stead and, if we don't, there'll be other things down the road!

Minoc to Bordermarch Caravan

From the office of Tanda Knighthawke, Governor of Minoc:

For more than a week volunteers and staff of Governor Tanda Knighthawke’s Grotto worked to ready supplies for the trek to Bordermarch. Arrangements were made with local shepherds to arrange for wool for weaving, and for shipping in bulk, lamb to be readied for shipping, and some to be slaughtered. Haggis was prepared, bread and pies baked, cloth woven, ale bottled and animal feed crated for the long march and shipboard journey to Dragon Isle. Once all was ready and packaged for shipping upon the backs of horses, the animals were led by Piero, and employee of Governor Knighthawke’s father in law, to the Minoc bank.

Governor Knighthawke by virtue of magic delivered a specially ordered barrel of brandy along with a few sheep, chicken and goats which she was able to enchant and lead through a gate. Using the cover of the Britannian Armed Forces building she was able to arrive with minimal risk of being seen. Tanda left a note and the goods she’d delivered for Sentri and those stationed there in the secured receptacle.

A small group gathered near the bank, Lord Nox, Denubiss, Nivers Nexus, Piero, Sir Basil Thorn and Vasortylem. Governor Knighthawke greeted the group and the route was discussed only so far as the first destination. In the party was a gathering of mages, archers and melee fighters, the plan was to march to Cove where a ship was waiting for them to board for the next leg of the journey. With no dock available in Minoc and Sweet Maid Sally in Vesper it seemed safer to risk the Orcs near Cove.

During the long tromp through the woods the small group ran into an ambush. From seemingly nowhere wolves and an archer appeared. The attackers attempted to split the party. The guards did well sticking together but the first pack horse was lost before reaching the Buccaneer’s Den land gate. The supplies from the dead horse were split between the remaining horses and people and the journey continued.

As the group left the ease of traveling by road to move cross country to Cove, the attacks increased. It soon became obvious the intent was to lure guardians of the caravan into pursuit where they could be picked off one by one. Many wounds were inflicted up on the guards, nothing the healers couldn’t manage in the field. The second pack horse was lost in this section of the trip, the contents abandoned in hopes of moving what was left more quickly to the port.

Upon arriving in Cove, the group entered the city gate. The city guards held off the attackers from entering the city and the caravan headed for the cove docks. The ship was loaded, as a sign of peaceful intent the ship carried no armaments relying instead on speed to out run anything choosing to pursue. They departed Cove for the Trinsic port, the sail was uneventful save the odd water elemental and slight pause to watch the dolphins play.

Once in Trinsic, the party made their way through the city and out the main gate again working their way through the trees and brush until they reached the Dragonhame Mountains. Following the mountain range south then moving cross country to the shore across from Dragon isle. There they boarded the ship again to sail to the island where Bordermarch Fortress stands. From the tales related to me I am not sure if it was fate dealing us a good hand or the Goddess protecting them, the sea monsters plaguing the began to give chase just as another ship appeared on the horizon. Thankfully due to the tremendous skill of the ship’s captain the sea monsters opted to pursue the brigands.

Once anchored offshore, the unloading began, the next assault came as the group entered the fortress an unseen assailant waited, they were run off and the remaining goods delivered to the fort. Governor Knighthawke and her husband, who had been waiting at Bordermarch, thanked and welcomed the caravan party. Payment was made to settle up with those who risked injury or their lives in its defense. Sadly, upon inspection it seems what was lost in the attacks was the crate of ale from Minoc and the cloth and wool.

OOC: The bombs pictured in these screen shots were ignored as not to interfere with a story arch coming (we've stumbled into things and foiled EM plots before) without circle of transparency they would have only been visible in a search.

The Keep has been damaged by explosions, injuring Sir Sentri and other paladins. There is a plea for help out. One tower severely damaged. (See the EMs site for more details and be ready Tuesday with powder and cannonball the Keep's supply has been plundered)
