Capture The Flag

Most of the newer games like WOW and Warhammer have pvp type mini games like capture the flag.
You don't actually lose anything from playing, but you win tokens which you can turn in when you recieve enough for a prize.

What about 20 prize tokens for a Soulstone fragment ? or something along those lines.

I really think implementing a capture the flag mini game in UO would be an amazing idea, as well as it might help bring back some of the players that left.

I dont know how Warhammer does it,
But in WOW you goto an npc and sign yourself or your party up to enter the instance.
The version i've played, two teams are taken into the instance and compete to capture the others flag 3x to win.
If you die, you're taken to the graveyard and rez. You lose nothing for deaths.

I'm not even a pvper but I like the capture the flag on wow. So im sure pvpers and non pvpers alike would enjoy that if it was possible to bring into the game.

Just some food for thought..

No im pretty sure at no point did i mention something thats constantly on going.

I mentioned something that you can do for an hour, and its over.
Not something that no matter when you're in game you can be attacked.

Factions: For people that like pvp all the time
Capture the flag: For people that want one hour of it

Not really the same thing.
I guess im not explaining it very well.
Its offered in plenty of other games, I just feel it would be a nice addition.

But technically if it was done in an instance, then you could have cross shard fights. (Instance would mean you're teleported to another area that is just for your team and the team youre battling)
Bagball is just a normal game, this would be in a separate area then everything else in the game..Like youre taken to a special area to fight a peerless.

It would also take place in a much much larger area then bagball.

Again you'd also get price tokens to eventually get a reward.

well if all the other mmorps have it we should too!!! uhh... except uo is good because its not like every other mmorpg... so.. no.. factions is perfectly fine for what your suggesting, you just want easy rewards, and you can do factions for an hour here or there, you can return to trammel with no negative effects now.

Why can't UO players have fun and earn rewards while having fun? I swear everyone that shoots down a good idea wants UO to be a die hard sweat shop.

Judging from the spike in posts about the next publish, it might be about to get a little more active.

Not something that no matter when you're in game you can be attacked.
You can come hang out over here on the blue moongate side of the world when you don't want to play PvP?

"well if all the other mmorps have it we should too!!!"

I dont recall saying we should just because everyone else does. But I think its about the only good thing about wow.
While i think KR sucks, and i hate it because its basically a bad copy of wow, This is the one idea from the new games I do like.
So if you want to act like nothing can be done to improve the game, go for it.
But being that ive played this game for 9 years, I can post suggesting an idea.

Theres plenty of people out there that dont really pvp, I have alliance mates right now that wont even goto fel in guard protected cities.
Maybe if they had this, theyd be willing to try pvping in some form.

I also dont want easy rewards. the rewards system im suggesting wouldnt give a fast reward, hence the world EVENTUALLY was put in there. Not immediatly.

I like the idea

maybe change the way champ spawns are put them to where your on red or blue team, one team defends one team offensive. Defend or kill them champ in ceratin time limit get your rewards (power scrolls, champ skull to progress to the next champ etc.) eliminate the desire to use exploits for those ghost cams, balance out the chance to spawn and to get PS's instead of having 2-3 zerg guilds control the spawn areas.

it's still pvp, more balanced with even number players on each team.

I seriously don't know about you folk. In my guild and in our RP community we've done Rat in a Jar..... We've Played Bagball even had teams with cheerleaders.... And we definitely did Capture the Flag.... quite often infact.... Many guilds still do these things

I'm tired of seeing people saying "We've got that." for every single idea..

No we don't HAVE anything like CTF.
We don't have ORGANIZED MEANINGFULL Bag-ball games.
Rat in the Jar, dunno what it is but WE DON'T HAVE THAT EITHER.

I don't care if it's "Possible for players to organize it themselves.", what I care about is that other games which you pay for seem to offer amusement provided BY THE GAME itself in a very organized fashion.

Solid, unexploitable, undisruptable among other things.

Factions is NOT CTF..
And RP Guilds going through the hassle of organizing all this? I'll pay you instead of EA so you can provide me 24/7 such things gladly to be honest. Know what I mean?

It's no excuse for EA to not do stuff other than Item Hoarders' Gallore(called "Events" oh-so-cheerfully) just because "...Players can do it themselves..".

You pay when you go for a ride in a Theme Park, no? It's not free and the organizers don't expect you to run their machines do they now?

.......... Some people constantly feel others are 'attacking' Ultima when they suggest pretty much anything that has to do with new game-play elements. :loser:

And to be honest, they don't even have to be about PvP.

maybe you should be playing WoW and War then instead of UO ?

I think CTF would be awesome. Factions suck. It's typically a bunch of punks that talk mad trash. CTF would be a more fun PvP environment. I think you'd have to have some risk though, otherwise it could be abused. People could farm soulstone frags all day or whatever...I think maybe a title instead? Kinda like when they had the duels going on way back when...

Beefy McGee, CTF King... or something to that effect. Something with an actual prize is going to be exploited.

They could make it to where the flag holder turns into that flag's color, like with sigils. If you kill that person, the flag drops to the ground or you turn that color and have to return it. Make the flag passable between players. Allow NO summons/pets. Make it best of 3 like what was suggested.

To me factions aren't that fun anymore. Too many EasyUO users, too many speeders, and it's not fun raiding when you're going up against 20+ people and a screen full of magic fields. It is fun having large scale combat, but I see no reason why we couldn't have CTF as well. A more fun, less laggy environment.

They could also implement something like the Assassin/President game in paintball...one team has to defend that one player, get them to a certain location safely, while the other team tries to kill that person.

I think it'd be great to see more in game on-going events like CTF. We're not trying to make UO like every other game. Just adding to it, to make it more fun and a fun environment for those that wish to take a break from the normal grind of things and have some real fun playing a great childhood game.

Do you think people that want this kind of content would be satisfied if these types of mini-games were available on a temporary test shard, like last year's Winterland shard that had the special snowball fight area?

If yes and knowing that your characters there would only last so long, what else would you need to do to make it compelling enough to get people to go there and participate? For example, would you want some sort of public bulletin board or other mechanism to keep track of team and individual points/ranks? With it being a test center environment, would you want to have the ability to change skills/stats disabled while you were in an arena?

Tina, having it on a test shard like setting would make it pointless as you could switch skills depending on who the other team is and what they brought to the table.

The fun part about it would be finding a good team that's well balanced to fight anyone.

I don't know how easy or hard it would be to have a seperate CTF arena world like what was mentioned.

I think it'd be a blast though. Have a bulletin that keeps track of points, wins, losses etc... make it similar to factions but with CTF instead. Make it a larger playing field, with obstacles, buildings etc... kinda like in real life. Heck, throw in a monster here and there to make it more of a challenge and intense =)

i think the only bad thing about factions is when you die you get killed over and over unless you move on and do something else, you should be ressed as invurnable with full health with all your stuff and calmed so you cant fight. this should last 5 minutes or so.

this will do away with res killing.

i would participate in factions more if it were this way.
i usually just fight untill i die, then log out as does alot of other people i know.
