can't survive the lower levels of shame/despise

Hi I am a casual gamer usually playing 1-2 hours a night. I can clear the upper levels of Shame and Despise making about 10k in an evening. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some cheap gear upgrades or maybe a better place to make gold. I have scanned a lot of vendors and most stuff far out of my budget. I'd like to eventually start making my way deeper into these dungeons, but it takes me forever to kill a mob like a Kraken or an Ogre Lord and casters like a Lich or a Daemon are really hard for me.

here is a description of where I stand right now:

68 pysical, 40 fire, 59 cold, 40 poison, 40 energy
200 luck

ring 10 archery, 7 HCI
bracelet 24 dmg increase, 8 physical, 8 cold, 16 LRC
bow 49 dmg increase
quiver 10 dmg modifier

Archery 98.7 (+10) 108.7
Anatomy 92.2
Tactics 94.7
Resist 100
Healing 53.8
Chivalry 51.6
Magery 76.9 (I plan to drop this eventually)

str 87, dex 87, int 56

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Your Character looks alot like mine: Paladin /Archer.

I would drop Magery for Focus. Focus regains you mana faster while fighting.

I would change Stats too 100Str 100 Dex and 25 Int. If you older then 6 months 30 INT.
If your character is a elf you get extra Mana and also buy extra Stats powerscrolls for more extra INT. (If your character is not a elf there is a quest to change him into it)

You should try to make a all 70 resist suit. Best shot is to gather the Virtue Armor. You get the pieces with fighting in the Dungeons you are doing.
A Talisman like Totem of the Void or The A Primer of Arms(From Library collection) are nice too have.

For Jewelry there is a nice bracelet of Health from the Gauntlet of Doom. It is too early with your skills to go there yet and it might be expensive at this time to buy. But there all things as goal to work too.

Also make sure to use the right Slayer weapons against the Monsters. With Enemy of one and Slayer weapon you can get pretty far anywhere.

Also work a little on Healing skill, you realy need to have to get over 60 to cure poison with bandages.
With healing and Chivalry high enough you can heal/cure in 2 different ways.

Your doing great, just give yourself time to get the hang of it to kill stuff. You only learn it by dying alot. Before you know it you will be facing DarkFathers in the Gauntlet in Doom!

PS: Insurance is your friend for your good stuff!

Yuh ... I was thinking along the same lines. To the OP: I didn't catch your shard but on LA just last week I got a Bracelet of Health at an auction for 450K. Three months go they were 3-5mil if you could find one - outside Luna in the cheap places! I gladly dropped 20 DI for this puppy as the bracelet!

Depending on your cash, it might be an idea to attend some auctions even if you don't bid on anything. You get to see what some of these items can go for, you have a shot at interaction with others if you choose and it does tell you what folks will pay for some items.

Depending on auction or tailors needing them ... spined hides from Lizardmen, Giant Serpents, Dire Wolves and some others can sell in bulk lots of 1000 and higher for decent change. I had my first house in under 6 months of VERY casual play by just selling spined in 1K minimum lots @ 25 gold each.

Focus is really fast at Mana regen and does help with Stamina to a lesser extent. Divine Fury can take care of stam shortfall when needed. Besides slayer weapon, EoO and all that Frarc says ... Consecrate Weapon give a short burst of damage to the foe at their weakest resistance. Use it! That's why Focus is sooo much better - it'll regain the mana dumps fast.

I did try out a slayer weapon last night. It made things a lot easier. For now I think that will be my new way of doing things.

Any tips on getting virtue armor? I've spent a fair amount of time in these two dungeons and haven't seen any of it. 450k is far out of my league. I make about 10k a run. I spent the first 30k on a little stone house. I have about 70k in the bank now.

I will try raising my Str/Dex and lowering my Int.

Thanks for the advice!

Virtue drops mainly after just killing as much as you can as fast as you can. I got 2 drops within the first month of being out ... killing in Destard for a few nights, then one ferocious run thru the Lizardmen in Despise. A couple turns at the and I'd get something.

Then there were 2 very dry months of getting nothing although I concentrated on Destard (need the horned and barbed stuff!!) and Crystal Elementals in Malas. Last month got the legs, this past Monday another set of legs.

I'm sure there are better ways to get these - faster. Everyone seems to have their style and special foe to use.

The Virtue Armor pieces drops in your backpack. You get them when fighting in the 8 Anti Virtue Dungeons:

Covetous
Deceit
Despise
Destard
Hythloth
Shame
Wrong
Wind (Not sure of this one)

These are the 7 Pieces:

Helm of Spirituality
Gorget of Honesty
Breastplate of Justice
Legs of Honor
Arms of Compassion
Gauntlets of Valor
Solaretes of Sacrifice

The 8the Piece is the Cloak of Humility and you need to do a Quest for that.

Follow the link to read all about that Quest:

Cloak of Humility

To get the Items (There are more then just the 7 Virtue Armor pieces) you just need to fight the monsters inside the Dungeons. The more you kill the bigger chance you get a artifact. You get more points for killing stronger monsters and luck help the drop chance too a little.
The pieces drop randomly.

Of course you can buy the pieces but its more fun to collect them yourself.

When fighting the spell casting critters (titan, acid elly, air elly, etc.) they will perform what is called a "mana dump". They will use all of their mana to cast spells at you. Once they are out of mana, they become easier to kill.

To survive the mana dump, you will want at least 50 resist vs. fire, energy, poison and cold. You will also need to heal, usually. Your healing skill is a bit low for this. You need 60 healing to cure poison. You may also need to run/walk off-screen, but they can still get you from off-screen it seems nowadays.

Slayers surely help, also talismans from heartwood quests. Mage slayer talisman works vs lichs., for example. There are also protection amulets.

There are places to practice where it is not so crowded:

Lichs: ruined house south of Yew or Cove graveyard
Titans: little used corner of the Lost Lands, must teleport in
Air ellys, gargoyles: outside shame (lure them north)
gazers: south of Brit gate

Also the City of the Dead outside Delucia has a fair assortment along with the savages.

Good luck.

The more you kill the bigger chance you get a artifact.

Does this span play sessions or does it only go for one dungeon run? (ie do I start over when I leave/log?)

This counts on all dungeons. And the points stay no matter if you die or only play half a hour or a all day or log out and leave .
You can even switch between dungeons. The points only reset to 0 after getting a Arty.

Yraapt, I'm on LS also. I'm going to keep an eye out to try to find you a suit closer to all 70's, which will help a lot when fighting spellcasters, especially with your gm resist.

You definitely want to get your healing up, also. Used to be a way of doing that relatively quickly, by hiring a NPC at the Jhelom pits, and sparring with them while healing both you and the NPC. Dunno if that's still an effective tactic or not, though.
