Cannot figure out what my account is, any ideas?

Hey all,

I'm going somewhat crazy trying to recover an old account. Basically it was my second account, which held a lot of my valuables and characters I worked very hard on. I know some of the character names on the account, and some other scattered details, but overall I don't have any of the critical info. It's old enough to be still in the oldest account system and has to be associated with an EA account before I can use it. I really want to recover this account, it would mean a lot to me after discovering just how much of my items I lost in my castle idoc... and plus it was just a very good account.

Long story short, I can't remember the username, the password could be one of many, or something I have changed and now don't remember, and I don't know which of my many e-mails it's associated with. I had a couple ideas, but none of them have been successful. I'm sure it has my name on it, and my billing info.. particularly my address.

Can anyone think of anyway I can recover this account? I've been on the phone with EA a couple times now, but I'm really getting no where with it. I certainly understand they have to be cautious, but unfortunately they're really giving me nothing to go from. If there was just some way to search for my character names and give me an e-mail or a username or something to go from, I think I can put the rest together, but of course unless you have all the details they don't want to release anything to you.

Any suggestions I might not have thought of?
Thanks!

Do you have access to any of the computer(s) you might have played UO on previously?

If so, you can look at the data files and there will be file folders based on the accounts, the shards you played, and underneath that, character names.

if you need something to jog your memory, were you a member of a guild? there are names on my guild list of people that haven't logged in since 2003, maybe longer.... if you can contact someone from the guild and have them look at the roster, perhaps that might help?

Do you know the email address you had associated with that account? You used to be able to be sent an email of all the UO account names that corresponded to a given email address. Then you could try out the various passwords you think it may be.

One of the problems is that it should be easy to track through billing. Another problem, is the email. EA should have their own email, like a hot mail similar to an icq, just a small program that has the data banks. For as long as they're running games that require an email then they should provide one. Think about it, you change your ISP and you lose your email. Say you have a hot mail or a google mail and now all of a sudden one of these companies goes out of business or changes their name.

So, now you don't have an email. If EA provided an email, they could keep better track of the IP addresses and it would be more secure. Also, as a customer, you would never have to worry about losing an email for that account.

There's really no way to recover the information because everything is based on cloak and dagger rather than people using real names and passwords they can remember and user names they've created on a more constant level, you're going to have these kinds of problems.

For example: If when you loaded Windows, you had a username created and password their system could identify your computer and if you bought a new computer or upgraded, you could transfer that information with the computer. Kind of like giving your computer an identity and registering it as a citizen.

As long as things are kept secret and cloak and dagger and everyone has to be afraid, you're going to have these problems but in the future I think, rather than a computer asking for your user name or password it will use a system of codes and allow access based on the computer. Identities might even end up on jump drives. So, as long as you have that jump drive in the computer, it will have the access information and be able to enter anywhere it has the right to.

you need either your username or email address OR the key off your CD package that you used to start the original account.

if you dont have either or those three then your out of luck from what i understand.

and if you havnt logged in in a long time, even HAVING the username might not help you.
when they did the account migration over to the new system i lost 3 accounts that i had back at AOS.
one of the accounts had fully developed guys too.
and i have the usernames for the accounts AND the passwords.
but they dont show up anywhere.

so ya, i think your in a pickle!

First of all, you guys had some really fantastic tips, particularly using data files from an old computer. Thank you so much for your input

By sheer dumb luck, I happened to write half of the account name down on an old piece of paper I came across, that triggered my memory, and i realized it was an account I had gotten from the friend, and the name of the account. I've now successfully recovered the account after several days of effort, and I couldn't be more pleased!! Ha ha.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I am in the same situation with the first account I started back in 97 (heck just the rares I have from leading Nobles out of the city and killing them would be worth a fortune) I cannot remember the account name and since I quit AOL a billion years ago they do not even have my records on file with the email address I used. The people at EA I spoke to went above and beyond trying to find the account for me. If you know the email it was attached to that should do the trick. I just consider my account lost :-(

I tried to get my accounts back from the late 90's

I know the email I used, remember 1 of the characters names and could tell them what city my isp was at the time and they could not retrieve any of my 2 old accounts
