Cannot equip this bow until a bowyer modifes it

Anyone know what this message "Cannot equip this bow until a bowyer modifes it" means and what needs to be done? I got two bows from an IDOC and wanted to try them out. Many Thanks

Those look like the old school Juka bows. Using a gear made by a Tinker, or purchased from an NPC, double click the bow. It should bring up a targeting gump, which you use to target the gear. It will then modify the bow and you should be able to use it then.

Well that worked. It changed the bow's color from brown to black. I only did the lizard bow and added an air elm slayer ability. I probably will not alter the other bow. Thank you for the information on how to correct the bow.

It is Interest that my archer still cannot equip the weapon. It says he is not strong enough to equip this. However, the bow has a strength requirement of 30 and my char has str of 76. I'm guessing that is some sort of bug with the old bows. My non-archer can equip it but he has a good deal more str. Again thanks for the info.

Weird that it does say 30 STR required but if memory serves I think you need 80 STR to equip them
